A few years ago Harbin was amazing but not anymore.
A few years ago Harbin was amazing but not anymore. Central street was overcrowded and most things were overpriced and similar to being sold in other shops. Most of the central areas are dirty, rundown and smelling of urine everywhere. Also if you can’t speak Chinese you’ll be lost because nobody speaks English. I was very disappointed and certainly won’t be going there again soon.

Outstanding but very cold.
Outstanding but very cold. We hit the Ice Festival, Zhaolin Park, St Sophia Church, the Cablecars, the Night festivities, Zhangyong Street Mall, the Siberian Tigers, and many other spots. Great to see so many Starbucks, the app makes it easy to order when English speaking staff.

It's a really easygoing city, with lots to do if you are curious to explore. The city center is obviously pretty and a mixture of architectural influences which is really nice for walking around. I enjoyed visiting the Siberian tigers park, really something special. If you stay long enough, you can also make it to Unit 731 for a bit of history. I really recommend spending a couple of hours to see the museum and the historic site.
Walking around in the city center, taking photos and stopping for snacks, ice cream or a Harbin beer is already in itself a cool activity to do.
It's an easy city to travel around but if you want to cross the river, you have to navigate the Chinese ways to commute (Didi, buses, shared bikes). One major problems : there are way too many cars in that place. Everywhere, even on sidewalks.

Great place to tick off the bucket list.
Great place to tick off the bucket list. Wonderful to see the city and all the sites covered in a blanket of snow. 3 days is probably enough in the city if you aren't going out to the ski resorts, however there is definitely more than meets the eye with this city!

It was cold but with layering you can manage.
It was cold but with layering you can manage. You can buy anything from shoes to coats in Beijing (Silk Market) for a fraction of what can be purchased in Australia and possibly better suited to the conditions. Would recommend you wait. We also had concerns about transportation and waiting for taxis etc. Shouldn't have worried taxis were abundant and hostel able to arrange transportation and entrance tickets to anything you need on arrival if at all concerned. We spent 3 days/nights and were able to see Snow and Ice, Sun Island, Tiger Park, 727 Museum and Zhoaling park and well as walk about the ice park on the river. Ate at local restuarants away from Central street, night markts and local street food. All good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The main purpose was to visit the snow carvings at Sun Island as well as the Ice sculptures. They were lit up when the sky grew dark. Truly breath-taking and memorable!
Chao Yang Street was also lit up.
The airport was under renovation and hopefully when we next visit, the experience would be much better upon arrival.
Somewhat surprised that after we boarded taxi, others could also share the ride! We still had to pay for the full fare even though taxi was shared.
Expect your taxi ride to be longer because of the constant traffic jam.
The Location is what makes this hotel super appealing. It's right around the corner from the pedestrian street and even after only having been to the hotel once finding it again late in the evening after a few drinks was easy. The rooms though small looked modern and were well maintained. The front desk staff was nice and helped when we asked where to go get the nucleic acid tests we needed in order to board our flight.
Upscale hotel with charming staff and good facilities. We had a horizon room with club access, definitely worth it.
I do have one suggestion. That some benches in the luggage trolley area would be useful in order to put on ice spikes onto our boots for the ice festival. They could damage the flooring if I wore them indoors.
A mix of western and China style breakfast was pretty cool and the standard is definitely good. The staff working there was exceptionally helpful and friendly (staff name: Winson/Wilson, got mixed up)
Convenient location, about 10-15 minutes from airport. There is a free transfer from and to the Harbin airport. If you want a cheap place just to sleep for one or two nights, the hotel is for you.
