It’s another mega city with fantastic infrastructure and a grisly bit of history which is hyped into a propaganda milking parlour against the Japanese. Air pollution is shockingly poor even in the summer months so I don’t even want to imagine what it’s like in winter. Usual temples, water features and museums...sadly nothing unique which you can’t find elsewhere.
The most intersting for me was the Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao), even it happened that I was participating in some wedding ceremony in the temple, (whis is said to be not that rare). Close to it is the Museum of Imperial State Examinations tp Civil Service (The world heritage tradition), although some remarks of the guides and film presenting this tradition, about the culture of Europe in the XVIIth century are certainly false and unjust, it is worth knowing the real roots of the world wide Civil Service (meritocracy) are in China. Across the street there is a the relief map of the historical Nanjing, destroyed during the WWII, And nerby there is the Qinhuai river with boats tours and lights floating. Just the most interesting part of the city. Around there are plenty of nice restaurants with delicious food, many shops with interesting souvenirs (some of them quite rare and yet not expensive).
We tried to knock off all of the must sees in Nanjing. Overall it was just what we needed. We were surprised by the lack of Western visitors to a city so close to Shanghai. Everyone was super friendly and it was our favorite stop on a 5 city tour!
The Ming Tombs are a beautiful place, and I could have spent much longer there! Transportation is quite easy to navigate, even if you only have rudimentary or no Chinese. Eat at tiny noodle shops over larger places. Spend some time walking the wall! It is quiet and peaceful. The section I walked from ZhongShan Gate was tree-lined and empty of other tourists. I saw 2 other people. If you have time, which I did not, definitely try other sections of the wall as well. I heard ZhongHua Gate has an exhibit on the wall bricks. The Memorial for the Nanjing Massacre is an emotional visit, but it is incredibly well laid out. Thorough translations into English and Japanese make for an informative time, and the exhibits are well-paced to take visitors through the whole story, from the background of the war all the way to the recovery efforts and war crime trials. Definitely add it to your Nanjing itinerary! (I would not recommend it for young children, simply because I don't think they can understand the gravity of what they will see, and my experience was disrupted by rambunctious toddlers chasing each other in what I saw as a place of mourning.)
Head up to the Purple Mountain Zijin Shan, accessible by bus by easy and cheap by taxi. We walked along the wall as well. The Mausoleum and gardens are beautiful. Pack your own lunch and spend a day up there. If the weather is nice you can walk around the whole mountain. There are paths that are relatively flat but lots of steps so not accessible for wheelchairs and prams are a task. Take a light stroller if you have small children as they will get tired! :)
Nanjing is and will always be my home away from home. The food selection is top notch as well as entertainment. The subway system is reliable, as well as the buses. Many people use Didi taxi which is much cheaper for transport .

Everything was perfect. The hotel is only two minutes walk from the exit 14,15 of Xiejiekou station. The staffs at the reception were all welcome and pleased to help when i asked about the way to some place. The room on the 19th floor is very large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast has a lot of variety both western and asian style. The restaurant manager was very attentive and polite. It is absolutely a 5-star quality hotel. I will stay here again when i go to Nanjing.

The owner is nice. He picked us at the airport and sent us back to airport without any charges. The hotel is 10 minutes drive only. Just simply call/text/email him once you pick up your luggage and wait for 10 mins. The surrounding area is quiet and safe with all you needs ( like restaurants and mini store). Btw, the restaurant nearby having a tasteful xi-chuan dishes. The room is cozy and tidy. I’m highly recommend this hotel to you.

I love this hotel - the staff were really nice to me and they gave me a room upgrade. Fantastic location, very central and with the 1912 bars/cafes complex across the road almost and the fuquiao metro across the street. It was the staff who made this stay so pleasant though. Excellent. I will return for sure.

Excellent position, in the very center of Nanjing. Metro station at walking distance. My room had an awesome view on one of the city center’s biggest crossroads (possibly the biggest?) as well as a bathtub. Also got a free 酸奶 on my first night stay directly delivered in my room by a hotel staff member.
