There are lots of wandering and hiking trails for novices and experienced walkers. There is a very nice public swimming pool and mountains all around; several to visit with cable car. Our family of 6 visited pretty much all the Alpine Restaurants there, but our favorite one is “Gasthof zur Roten Wand” in Gaitau/Bayrischzell. The Restaurant is excellent. There are many beautiful lakes in the area where one can swim, ride a paddle boat ore a Kajak. Also, the quaint city of Kufstein/Tyrol is only a 45 min car ride away.
It was nice. The young man that worked at the train station - at a sports shop was very irritated thatI asked him about how to purchase a train ticked. I did not realize he had nothing to do with the train operations. It would have been an easy answer, without the rude comments that it is not his job. Sad.
Really good area for snow sports . Generally very good signs around village many cross country ski routes all well laid out and maintained. Plenty of ski areas all close at hand. Reasonable number of restaurants in the area but best to book in advance. Would expect it to be a great place to visit at other times of year to hike, go on mountain walks and travel around Alps and enjoy scenery. Easy travel into Austria.
Bayrischzell is a beautiful village, small enough to cover on foot, with a few shops for essentials and souvenirs, nice restaurants, good ski hire shops and only 10 mins bus ride from the ski slopes. It is 90 mins drive from Munich airport which makes it easily accessible. The village goes to sleep early though, so if you’re looking for “apres ski” it’s not here, but it is excellent for a chill out break, for good food and good beer!
