What makes a hotel great is when the owner likes owning a hotel. It's the little things that count. He called a day in advance to give me the code since I would be arriving very late. He kept a small light on in my room because it was so dark that night. He called my room just before 10 am to ask if I wanted to come down to breakfast. At breakfast he asked if I would like him to print my receipt. He made fresh scrambled eggs for me. His parking lot was easily found with large signs on the street. These are all simple things that are not searchable in the Booking database, but they are what I look for in a hotel.
