Great German city. I stopped in Worms in the morning then after lunch to Mainz. Many pedestrian streets. There was some wine booths in the squares for Fall wine first press (I don't recall the name of the wine -something wasser, there were two types) very tasty. Everything was reasonably priced. I had been in Mannheim the day before and would definitely skip that city in favor of Mainz as part of a Rhine river tour.
We loved seeing the Chagall stained glass windows in St. Stephen's church, walking through the old city and along the Rhein, seeing the Gutenberg museum, having coffee and desert at the many outdoor cafes. If you only ever get to go to oneGerman city, make it Mainz! After that, see Trier and Berlin. Only go to Munich for the Pinakothek museums.
Mainz is a beautiful city, everything is close by and convenient to get to in walking distance, you can eat good and not gain any weight because it's a lot of walking which is good 😊 You must go to Eisgrub Brau for the BEST GERMAN FOOD Ever!!!
Very cute old city. Restaurants were really good. Lots of great shopping. Easy to get to attractions in the area. Close to Frankfurt airport which is convenient and right on the river which is nice! A hidden gem!
Been here several times for Business and Personal reasons. I wouldn't travel to Mainz just for vacation (even if Mainz has a beautiful City Centre). I was at 'Haus des deutschen Weines' twice for dinner and it was good both times - even if I think, the first time was even better than the second time.
Mainz is a beatiful old city with many spectacular solid stone buildings. It is the jumping-off spot for Rhine cruises or just walk around the old town (Altstadt) all day and soak up the atmosphere. Cafe eating and drinking are popular and cheap - grab a meal overlooking the Dom and take your time. Don't forget the many bake shops that will tighten your pants - plenty of snack food, healthy and otherwise. Mainz is also a great place to stay as somewhere to get over jetlag if you have flown into Frankfurt - half an hour on the train and you're back 200 year. So much better than the big city. It has excellent train service for getting up and down the Rhine as well as cross country so whether you're going to Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, France, Switzerland, Italy, there is a simple fast train connection to be had. It's safe and gentle place to walk around with no steep hills in the old town. For real German food and beer, try a pavement cafe or a Stube but be careful - there are a lot of Italian restaurants and you don't accidentally want to walk into one of those when you're looking for real German fare. Above all, be sure to take a cruise down the Rhine - no need to go all the way: even a cruise to Rudesheim or Bingen is very pleasant and the train trip back takes 45 mins to 90 mins depending on how far down you've gone. It can be breezy out there so take a jacket, even in summer. And make sure you're camera battery is charged (though you can buy new ones all over the city).

We enjoyed our stay, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The location is on the outskirts but very easy and inexpensive to travel to town by bus. There was free parking available at the hotel. We loved the restaurant as the food was delicious. Most of the staff didn’t speak English but they were extremely patient helping us order food and answering any questions in the best way they could. The waitress at the restaurant was especially helpful and made us feel very welcomed.

The location of this hotel suited us perfectly as we were travelling by train and was very close to the main station. Interestingly it was very quiet although we did have a room at the back of the hotel. It was only a 20 minute stroll to the old town and the river. All the members of staff were super friendly and helpful.

Great spot, easy to find from the main train station, took me roughly 45 minutes to get from Frankfurt Airport to the hotel. Cute, vibrant town. Had a terrific farmers market on the weekend, think it might be a regular thing. Lovely promenade along the Rhine. Only 5 euros to get into the Gutenberg Museum. EJ9 was easy to check-in, clean space and comfortable. Short walk to most things you'd want to check out.
