I arrived when the sun was shining, I could walk around and enjoy the beautifully painted homes and explore the shops displaying the stunning handworked art. Then it snowed... and it turned the town into a magical snow globe. It was so lovely to walk around in the twilight with the festive sparkling lights casting thier colors on the white snow-laden tree branches.
Such a charming and peaceful apartment. I feel fortunate to stay at Barbara's home. Super clean, full of character and excellent kitchen and bathroom. My husband was a little too tall to stand in the kitchen, or maybe he just said that so I would not make him go in there to do any dishes! Just kidding. I loved my stay, and I would love to come back again. Bonus; if you are a light sleeper you want to stay here. It is about as far away from the church bells as you can get (they ring every 15 min, 24 hours a day).
It’s a beautiful town and surroundings exceptional. Ideal for outdoor enthusiast or casual tourist. As with most Bavarian towns/cities the buildings and countryside are difficult to beat. How can anyone not feel healthier after a stay. Despite COVID this remains a jewel in Germany’s crown.
Oberammergau is obviously a huge draw for tourism, with its marvellous Bavarian outlets, and landscapes to die for. The variety of eating and drinking places should satisfy most visitors, and nowhere is not accessible by a short walk. Further afield, a short car journey puts you in touch with Ludwig's palaces, the Zigspitze mountain and the wider retail therapy of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If, like me, you only do a short 4-day trip, I guarantee it will still recharge your batteries and give you a warm sense of well-being. Especially so after a visit to one of the Gelateria's in the town.
Oberammergau is a beautiful and pretty little town with the unique architecture of the houses where each has a different fresco on the exterior. You could spend hours roaming around just looking at the houses, particularly around Ettaler Strasse. And once your through, drive 12 kms to Schloss Linderhof which is just spectacular. Highly recommended. And keep some time for trekking around. And if that's not enough, drive 45 mins to Walchensee. In summary a beautiful place for a longish weekend.
The property manager was professional, on time and went out of there way to accomodate my arrival and departure times. They had a very helpful book on the property (in many languages) to assist with the amenties use on-site. There was a market across the street with everything you would want from fresh fruits and vegatables to beer and soda.
The owners, Petra and her husband (Ernolf I think his name was, sorry I forgot) are incredibly friendly, so much so that while we were just looking for a simple hotel, we were completely charmed over by their kindness. The room was the most comfortable I had stayed in, in recent memory. It was extremely big for two people and had a firm mattress. The restaurant was fantastic, offering delicious Turkish and local food. The location was on the edge of town which offered great scenic walks as well as access to local supermarkets and such.
Oberammergau
Our family room was huge, quiet, very modern, with great rain shower and perfectly soundproofed windows (ideally for light sleepers). The hotel is located in a quiet street not so far from the village centre (just few minutes walking) and its many restaurants. Breakfast made with fresh local product offers everything you could dream of (eggs dishes are made on the spot). The owner/manager is a real gentleman and pay attention to guest needs. Parking are good also for big cars.

The host gave us the biggest room! We love the spacious balcony where we had a starry sky and nice chat there. It’s quiet and it takes no more than 5 minutes walking to the center. There is a river near by. The scenery is great. The hotel provided very delicious breakfast and I even used the kitchen to make us cups of tea at night. I’d love to come back to this small town in the winter. Thank you!
Oberammergau
Well-equipped apartment with modern design. There is a top-quality spa in the basement. Monika is a wonderful host. She gave us a KönigsCard which gives you access to many services, like cable cars or public transport, for free. We stayed in a room with 2 balconies with mountain views. There is a supermarket a hundred meters away from the hotel and it's 2 minutes walk to the cable car.
The hotel is located within a short walk of the center of town. Parking is convenient right in front of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable. Ours had a balcony with a table and chairs, which was very pleasant. We enjoyed the breakfast. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We couldn't ask for better service. We would definitely stay here again.
Oberammergau
The apartment was very spacious, clean and nicely furnished. It had everything I needed, the kitchen was also equipped with some basic groceries, like oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, etc. The area was a bit at the outskirts of Oberammergau, but very good starting point for hiking. Especially the nearby public swimming pool and sauna (3 min. walk) were amazing.
The accommodation at Hotel-Gasthof zur Rose was very clean and comfortable and we were able to take a short stroll to most of the beautiful sites in Oberammergau. A public parking area is conveniently located and the hotel offers permits to guests as part of the room charge so parking was very easy within a very short walk of the hotel.

A sweet lady runs the hotel. She's very helpful and accommodating. It was very clean and comfortable inside. I was able to wash a little laundry (no charge) in the hotel. The kitchen has cooking supplies, refrigerator, stove, and toaster. I reccomend staying here.
We had a comfortable, large room. The entire hotel is welcoming and the staff is really nice. The location is ideal as a starting base to go around for a hike, and to go downtown for dinner. We'll go again!
This hotel is amazing. We travel a lot, and we believe this hotel ranks up there with the best boutique hotels we have stayed at. It's a very calming hotel. Great staff, great room, great village...
The hotel was in the centre of the village and easy to access and park. Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice. The evening meal was again excellent, with a choice of local dishes.
Owners and staff were very nice. Room was very comfortable. Got great recommendations for restaurants. One of the really nice hotels in town, and we have stayed in several.
Very nicely updated facilities with elevator. Good bed, shower, desk and a fridge! Great location near center of Oberammergau.

Very high quality of kitchen and bathroom appliances, pretty and carefully decorated. I appreciated that basic supply of detergent, cleaners, soap, sponge, salt, sugar, etc was there. Very good location! 5 minutes walk to the slopes through nature. Can start cross country skiing right behind the house (if there is enough snow)! Lots of toys, books, games and movies kept our boys happy and entertained. Perfect vacation home for families!
Breakfast was wonderful. Our room was beautiful, with breathtaking views of the mountains. Location was just where we wanted to be.
We had a fabulous room with a great view. Everyone was nice and they served a very good breakfast.
