I had a great and peaceful stay at The Temple 1. Paola went above and beyond to make my time in Mindo very special. The property is beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect place to relax between the many adventurous activities Ecuador offers. The room also has incredible views and I loved waking up in the mornings to the sunrise and birds. Highly recommend for anyone, but especially for female solo travelers.

Mindo has a lot of wonderful nature options. Feeding hummingbirds, the BEST butterfly gardens we have ever visited and we have been to many & really good bird watching - we used Sandra & Romelly at Bird Paradaisio (sp) & had alot of fun & Romelly drove us back safely to Quito but took us on an extra bird sighting trip on the way that was super - wonderful too! The trails to the waterfalls was a lot of fun & the falls are worth the trek although these out of shape older folks didn't make it to them all. The chocolate tour at Yumbos led by Amir was wonderful! We enjoyed both the tarabita & telerifico rides although the last was a bit scary, terrific views! Prices for everything was very reasonable, food may be a bit higher than rest of Ecuador but not too bad. Limited options though as most menus looked almost the same. One place we would definitely come back to. Only the food options were a little lacking. Everything else was fun & it was nice to be out of big cities.

Mindo has so many things to do.
Mindo has so many things to do. We took a ride on the cable car (Tabita) and then hiked to see the 5 waterfalls. We toured a butterfly house and took a coffee tour. The town is small so walking was the way to explore. We only needed a taxi to get to the hiking. Definitely take a truck taxi since the roads are rough and windy to get to the top. Our driver gave us his phone number to call him when were finished hiking. There are so many different restaurants to choose from and very good prices. We enjoyed our two night stay at the El Descanso where we saw so many tropical birds (especially hummingbirds) right off the back patio.

Mindo is a lovely little town, famous for chocolate, butterflies and waterfalls! Although there’s a lot of activities, you can get through most of them in 2 days, which makes it a great weekend travel destination.
Temperatures are usually mild due to it being in the clouds.

I've visited here twice, once in 2001 and the second time in 2023. I would say it has actually improved quite a lot in that time; the road into town is better, and the facilities in the area are much better. There are some much better restaurants and small cafes, and more "fun" activities available than there used to be. At the same time, the development hasn't been allowed to run rampant, so it still has the feel of a small town in the subtropics.
Loved that there was a working hot shower (not always found in Ecuadorian hostels). Room was clean and they provided us with lots of towels, soap, shampoo etc. The staff were incredibly helpful on a lot of things - gave me an ice pack for an ankle problem, gave us an extra hour to check out when we told them we were doing a running event and wouldn't return until just after check-out time. Restaurant was great value and good variety, great food! As was the breakfast - very nice. Great location, super close to everything.
This place feels like home, Mateo is like a friend who you can ask for anything, always wants a chat and will help you with anything. The place is so peaceful, and clean. The kitchen is nice, the breakfast is also good. We will always come back here if we come to Mindo. You can organise any trips here, mateo is so knowledgable about everything you need!
Location is a 15min walk from the centre of Mindo. It is a nice wooden lodge with a beautiful garden. Rooms have great views and common areas include a kitchen and chill out zones.
La Chonta is beautifully situated, at a 40-minute walk from Mindo. Andres, the host, is very hospitable and helpful. And a morning tea with fresh lemongrass made my day!
