You can walk to all the attractions; The Alcazaba (free entrance) is an imposing Moorish fortress overlooking the city; the fortified, 16th-century Almería Cathedral is imposing and the surrounding bars and restaurants all serve tasty tapas. Visit the underground network of tunnels, the Civil War Shelters of Almería two hours for two euros; a bargain. Salitre Bar de Vinos offers great local wines, fine cognac and succulent food to suit all tastes. Start your evening at Puerta de Purchena take in the butterfly building and on a Friday & Saturday head for the bars behind the Mercado central a domicilio you will not fail to meet interesting locals. ( a female judge, a doctor and student chemist all under 30...I am 74) Want quiet contemplation then stroll Rambla de Almería for photos with the fountains. All bars serve free tapas and we started our day at Café Bar Barea always a table available. No menus in English and no "full English breakfast" how refreshing; there is a bar on every street, and for authenticity go where the locals go; CAPITOL CALLE GRANADA.
Like several airport cities, it's under-rated as a destination in its own right. My one regret was missing the Spanish Civil War underground shelters. Visitor numbers appear to be restricted and all the available time slots were sold out throughout my stay in the city. I'd recommend booking on-line and well in advance. By way of compensation, I discovered the excellent Guitar Museum, dedicated to the local craftsman credited with creating the classical guitar. As a venue it doesn't appear to be strongly promoted, which is difficult to understand because it tells the story superbly.
We had three nights in Almeria: we could have seen all the main attractions in two days, but it was good to just relax and take it easy. The Alcazaba (free entry) was the most impressive, followed by the cathedral. Don't miss the Al Medina tea houses (two of them, close to the Alcazaba) - great tabule and humus. The Museo de Almeria features interesting exhibits of the archeological digs of the Millares and Argar prehistoric settlements (2-3000 BC) if you like that sort of thing! Compared with Malaga, the eating out options are more limited, and the restaurants proper generally don't start serving until 8.00 to 8.30 pm, which is a limitation if you like to eat early. We wanted to see the underground shelters but they were fully booked until after our three day visit, which was disappointing.
We loved going to the thermal baths at the Aire, but apart from that we found the town so very badly planned and frustrating and the staff at several bars and restaurants were rude and not accommodating. We love travelling to all areas of Spain but unfortunately will not be coming back
A great busy Spanish Coastal city, a very relaxed, lovely beach Playa with a vast choice of places to taste local food and Tapas, also many tourist places to visit, plus a busy Ferry port for further travel. Take a drive into the Alpujarra, with its many mountain villages, is well worth the trip. Visit Laujar de Andarax, or my favourite. Fondon and stop for a relaxing, Spring/late summer, drink and Tapas at Godoy's in the village square.
We stayed in Almeria for one night and we thought that was just right. It's a decent enough city but we didn't think it merited any more than this. We were then travelling on to the Cabo de Gata for two nights.
I liked the location as it is on one main street with many restaurants within walking distance. There is a CarreFour grocery store a few blocks north of the hotel. I liked the greeting I received at the check in. She gave me a map and was helpful. The room had hot water, good wifi, and a comfortable bed with no noise for sleeping. I liked the refrigerator in the room for my cold drinks. Breakfast provided was very good with options of fruit, cereals and rolls. This is a great value if you want to visit Almeria and I would recommend.
Ideally situated in the heart of the city within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and major tourist attractions. Reception staff were welcoming and all common areas were Covid secure and clean. Our room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was more than adequate for the time of year. There is on site secure car parking at 16 euros per 24 hrs, a real bonus in a city hotel. We would certainly stay at this hotel again should we visit Almeria once more.
The apartment is extremely spacious, very well equipped kitchen, the beds were comfortable, the living room and ding area were very nice. The apartment is located directly on the beach, the surrounding area has a large number of restaurants, there are supermarkets nearby and the bus stops are less than 5 min away. The host also provided all equipment needed for a day on the beach, from foldable chairs, beach towels and even an ice cooler.
Grand Hotel in 60th style close to the harbour, a bit old fashioned but with good atmosphere. Clint Eastwood and many other holiwood stars stayed here while shooting Western movies in the desert. Great value for the price, nice pool terrace, convenient car park. Good breakfast buffet
Almería
Nice and spacious apartment. very clean, good facilities including the kitchen. Ideal location within Almeria, in the main shopping area and close to many tapas bars; also close to the seafront, to the Paseo, the Cathedral and the Alcazaba.
I loved the spacious room and the rooftop pool was small, but stylish and perfect for 1 or 2 people maximum. The views of the Cathedral were spectacular and the rooftop area was well equipped.
