We were driving from the Algarve back to Denia and wanted to break the journey so we decided on Guadix as it's about an hour south of Granada, a good halfway point, and we wanted to stay in a cave house. And we're very glad we did! We arrived late in the day so spent the evening and next morning walking around the town. It was January and very cold and the smoke coming from chimneys at ground level was extremely atmospheric. It's a very interesting town, with a mix of old and new, an imposing castle and cathedral , and a lot of history. Unfortunately everything was closed due to the time of year but we would go back for a more in-depth look. We'd recommend it as a really interesting and fun place to stop for a couple of days.
Very interesting town, parking can be a problem like most places but not impossible. Tourist office staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely area to explore, Guadix would be a good base to stay in and near enough to Granada less than an hour in the car or you can catch the local bus.
I loved the fact that Guadix was small enough to walk most places. I stayed in the cave district and could walk to the cave museum and around the streets to view cave houses yet I only had a short walk downhill to reach the beautiful cathedral and see the outside of the Muslim fortress (which sadly was being renovated so was closed). I also was able to walk to the bus station with my wheeled luggage in about 20 minutes. The thing I loved most was the lack of tourists and the fact that there was not much English spoken which forced me to interact with my poor Spanish. I think it was very much appreciated.
A centre for troglodytes with abundant cave houses, which are well worth investigating. The caves are naturally at a temperature of between 19 and 24 degrees C, meaning that in both the height of summer and the depths of winter no heating or cooling is necessary. The caves have been fashioned into beautiful dwellings. Guadix has a fine Cathedral and is the residence for the Bishop of the Comarca. Guadix is well worth a visit and a stay of at least a couple of days to do it justice. The weekly market is held on Saturdays. Also if you are a film buff you will find out that many of your favourite westerns have been filmed in or nearby the town.
Exceeded our expectations. The city was easy to walk around with great architecture all around. The cathedral is well worth a visit and for 6 euros you get to go up the tower and into the cathedral itself and also get a hand held speaking guide. Views from the tower are breathtaking and you also get to learn about the bell ringer who used to live in the tower. Inside the cathedral is amazing and there is also a museum upstairs of all the paintings. Close by is the Plaza la Constitución which is a big open courtyard and here is the restaurant Liceo Accitano. The menu looked very comprehensive and menu del dia was 10 euros and well worth it with lots of food. The staff were very friendly. There is a tourist train that goes around the city and also takes you up to the cave houses. This area is about a 25 minute walk from the cathedral and it is worth going up and looking at the beautiful cave houses plus you get excellent views of the city.
Weekends in guadix are not a good time for visitors out of town. Hardly any restaurants open, even tourist info told us that only a few tourist restaurants stay open We drove about 30 mins out of guadix to visit some of the local villages but not even get a coffee. I have no problem with that but not best time for tourists for a two day visit. The caves are however fabulous and any day is great to vist to see these amazing dwellings. There is a small local tourist train which does take you up to the barrio and gives you time to visit and then takes you back down to the town. We had a car and it took us about an hour to find our cave hotel, crazy narrow streets and even some of the locals didnt know all of the streets. However a fantastic place to visit, dont try and find your cave in the dark though, basically impossible.
Guadix
The cave was absolutely wonderful. Elegantly decorated, very clean and peaceful. From the terrace one could see all of Guadix and there were multiple restaurants at walking distance. Our host was very helpful with everything, from recommendations on where to go for dinner to where to buy tickets for the Alhambra... We felt at home and will definitely return!
Guadix
The location was perfect as I was in the cave area and almost beside the official cave museum. I had chosen this hotel because I was in a cave suite. The suite was beautifully decorated and took me by surprise. I was high above the town but it was a very short walk into historic Guadix.
Guadix
There's no view with the room because it's a literal cave. I loved the decoration. I loved our hosts, such a nice couple. She's charming and speaks perfect French as well. Their home is a little slice of Paris is Guadix. I highly recommend.
Excellent location just a minute of the A92M, the cave was wonderfully cool considering the outdoor temperature was 40C. Hosts very nice and welcoming. Cave was spotlessly clean. Guadix is a fascinating city and well worth exploring.

Fantastic 3 bedroom cave in Guadix. Extremely good value. All mod cons and beautifully clean, and a lovely cool retreat from the blasting heat outside. Maria, the owner, is a real character and wonderfully friendly. Loved it.
Cool, quiet, large, clean, traditional, fantastic outdoor space, Maria was wonderful, safe for a motorcycle, felt like one of the locals, Guadix is a great town, Sierra Nevada mountains are so close. Wonderful!!!
The hotel was perfectly located for our travels. We just needed a bed and something to eat. The staff are really very good and helpful. It is not luxury by any means but clean and quite adequate.
Wonderful hotel in the center of charming Guadix. The staff of the guesthouse and adjoining restaurant are particularly kind and helpful. Will certainly stay again. Breakfast was pretty good, too.
We arrived at hotel very late ( about 3:00 clock ) The person at reception was really very nice and helpful We can ignore many thing if staff is friendly
Spacious room, comfortable bed and the elegant ambience of the hotel. The nearby secure parking was a bonus.
