The Calmer Side of Lanzarote
Playa Blanca is the newest, and arguably quietest, large resort on Lanzarote, which makes it popular with families. It is partially sheltered from the Atlantic winds by the dormant Montaña Roja volcano, and volcanic rock lines its sandy beaches which are spread around a bay.
There are 3 main beaches: Playa Dorada which is popular for watersports, Playa Blanca – the most peaceful, and Playa Flamingo which is overlooked by shops, bars and restaurants serving locally caught seafood. Further east the long stretches of sand give way to the rocky Papagayo Coves whose beautiful scenery is depicted on many a postcard.
A promenade linking the 3 beaches is lined with luxury hotels and resorts available on Booking.com, many offering all inclusive options and some even have their own water park. There are also lots of cheap apartments and private villas in Playa Blanca, some of which overlook Marina Rubicon. The Castillo de las Colorados watchtower sits on a rugged piece of headland looking across the Atlantic Ocean towards the hilly terrain of Fuerteventura.
Ferries to this neighbouring Canary Island depart from just across the bay and offer beautiful views back across the whitewashed buildings towards the mountains behind Playa Blanca.

Playa Blanca is a nice resort which is mainly family orientated but suits couples also. We visited in early July 2024 and stayed close to the marina - there is a more relaxed atmosphere at this end of the resort. There is a good retail mix from upmarket boutiques to bargain souvenir shops and the restaurants are generally good, but busy. For less abled travellers there are quite a few steps in and around the resort so it may not be entirely wheelchair friendly. Myself and my wife really enjoyed the break - we walked from the resort to Papayago beaches every morning (approx 1.5hr round trip over challenging terrain but well worth it for the views and the exercise) and then chilled out around the pool in the afternoon. What more could you ask for?

Sprawled out and not easy to get from A to B across open area with many shops, bars and restaurants closed down. We would not return. Best restaurants are around Marina Rubicon. Beaches are a long distance apart.

Playa Blanca is a laid back sort of place with a good selection of shops and restaurants. You have a nice promenade to walk along to get to the Marina and further down to the main strip area. Taxis and buses are cheap. You can download an app called Moovit which gives you times and numbers for buses. The restaurants in the Rubicon area has a section, Chinese, Indian, Italian where you can mix and match if you have fussy eaters. We have been to Playa Blanca man many times it is one of the most relaxing places you will ever go to. There are some lovely beaches and plenty of lovely places to sit and people watch or to have a lovely meal. The bus service is excellent the number 30 does a circular route of Playa Blanca and it’s worth just paying the €1.40 or whatever it is to just have the ride and see where it goes and see that it take you up to Faro Park as far as it goes some lovely restaurants including Faro35 serving some lovely food. Then taking you all the way to Papagayo where again you have some lovely little bars. There are so many lovely places to eat including Utopia, Isla Bonita, Indian Delights, Ocean, The Mill, The Anvil, El Tonel, For a fantastic day trip you have to contact Lola! OMG she does the most fantastic day trip! A small trip which she Taylor’s to your needs. She only take out small groups possibly max 8 people you won’t be disappointed!

Maria let us leave our luggage in the villa until our entry at 3pm. Communicated through WhatsApp which was fine for us. Beautiful welcome pack of fruit and wine. Kitchen was fine for needs of 6 adults and rooms were comfortable. Power to air on tripped, owner organised electrician to attend next day. Villa was lovely and clean and bedding and towels were replaced after a week. Was well located between town and rubicon marina. Was on a main road but no issues with traffic or noise. I would recommend this villa for 6 people for a wonderful stay in Playa Blanca, big thanks to Maria and the team.

Playa Blanca is a nice family friendly town. There are many bars and restaurants and some nice shops. The marina is not far away (taxi or car ride 5 minutes) with many more bars restuarants and shops. Good beaches, and only half an hour from the airport. Not as hectic as Puerto Del Carmen if you want a quieter holiday, but still with great restaurants and beaches.AmeliaUnited Kingdom
