The stunning location of Lapland Hotel Äkäshotelli is well-suited to cross country skiers and mountain hikers. Enjoy spectacular views of snow-covered fields and hills dotted with pine trees.
the wooden cabin was great and cozy. we had a good time. Beds are comfortable and the Breakfast was really nice and lots of choices also for vegan and vegetarian.
Great amenities including an extensive network of cross country ski trails with a supermarket, a few shops, restaurants and sports shops in the centre and amazing boreal forest all around. Known as The Village Surrounded By Seven Fells (hills), Äkäslompolo is a place where you can ski and ski, easily getting away to more remote places. There are small cabins dotted about in the forest (all well signposted) where you can buy food and hot or cold drinks (or even stay the night at some) and others where there are fire pits and traditional "kota" shelters where you can rest, warm up and cook sausages. Great for adults and kids alike. Some of the groomed trails pass over the hills and above the tree line so there are good views along the way. The trail network caters for walkers, skiers, cyclists and skiers with dogs, all in the same vicinity, but sufficiently separated for safety and enjoyment. There are saunas at almost all the accommodations and lake / river swimming or plunge pools year round. Good public transport links to Kittila airport, Kolari train station and Rovaniemi.
Fantastic skiing atmosphere. Everywhere skiing tracks and no matter of time people on tracks. Ski resort has a lot of off-piste skiing areas. Temperature in Febrauary can surprise skiiers from south :) Viseversa on mountain temperatures were up to 20 degrees milder that in valley. Landscape is absoultely mindblowingly beautiful. Our week long stay was too short and we defenately will be back for hiking season or longer cross country skiing vacation.
Great little town, supermarket has everything, restaurants are great, but closed in evenings after 6 due to Covid. Eat out in the afternoon's instead. Loads to do, saw spectacular aurora (northern lights) most every night. Bus from kittila airport is easy.
Really nice place for winter sports! Well kept ski tracks for long distances with small cafes every few kilometers. Not many evening restaurants or other things to do than skiing in the evenings. Perfect for nature lovers, who aren’t too adventurous.
Transport by buses is easy between airport and the hotels, and within Ylläs itself. The highest point has fantastic view, and you can see Levi from there too. The skiing experience is also better than in Levi because there were much less people, and the tracks are longer.
This is the greatest area for cross-country skiing I have ever been to. We just scratched the surface in our week. The area is wonderfully equipped with brilliant cafes and smaller huts where you can cook for yourself on an open fire. The Finnish people are the friendliest in Europe: I lost my mobile phone on the trail and the whole town seemed to join in the search for it: it was handed in to a cafe and they managed to get it back to me. The supermarket is excellent and there is a first class ski shop in town with high quality rental equipment and very knowledgeable staff. At the wilderness huts Arctic Jays will come and eat nuts out of your hands!
Everything! What a wonderful place. The glass cabins are clean and comfortable, and it’s such a unique experience - Luxury in the middle of the forest. The Sauna is amazing! Especially since you can jump into the lake to cool down. After the sauna, going for dinner at the restaurant (excellent food) will make your evening perfect. Finally, the service was awesome 🤩. Joanna called in advance to coordinate with us, gave us great hiking tips, and was there to help with everything we needed. Highly recommended 👌
The landlord was always ready to make the changes if needed (e.g sauna times) and also a text message away if we needed him, responded quickly. The door code makes it easy and comfortable to arrive and leave. There was enough place to park. Walking and skiing tracks nearby. Possible to go shopping on foot. Northren Lights in the sky if you go outside after the great sauna. For us it was second time staying there and we have fallen in love with the house and Lapland.
The cabin is nicely decorated and well stocked with everything for a holiday stay. While its secluded its a short walk into the village for the shops and restaurants. Got lovely balcony overlooking nature. Bus stop nearby meaning you dont really need a car to get around. Village is small but have lots to offer, everyone were helpful and welcoming. Plenty of activities nearby.
the lodge was brand new and very comfortable. the houses are very good located, close to the lake, but still in an oasis of silence between the trees. it felt like staying in the woods. Every home is very well equipped and has it own private wooden sauna. it was everything we had in mind when we came to Lapland.
The decoration in the upstairs common room was very inviting and created a cozy vibe. The young woman welcoming us and cooking our breakfast was very friendly and it was nice chatting to her and the other guests in the kitchen. The B&B was a short walk away from several restaurants in the very small town.
Great location and value for money. Not overpriced like so many places. Big plus for the fireplace and floor heating that is must for this kind of cabin for winter sports. Also great that pets were allowed to visit inside. Kids loved the upstairs where there is surprisingly plenty of room!
Nice, neat & comfortable - perfect for 4 persons, we had a great week there! - Good value for money in winter high season. - Really quiet & good to come down. - Good furnishing/equipment with everything you need. - Nice host, who always answered questions really fast.
Everything, very cosy, good location in Akaslompolo (our third trip here so we know the place quite well), good equipment specially the wood for the fireplace and the ski lodge, well decorated, close to the cross country trails. Good sauna.
Very nice cabin/apartment (one house split into two apartments with own front doors). New and fresh with your own sauna, dishwasher and washing machine. Nice and quiet area among other new houses. Perfect for two people.
i loved everythibg about this place. Very clean, comfy, in the nature, owner was super sweet she helped me with everything, nice breakfast… everything was lovely would go there again💕
had everything we needed and was nice and cozy, including a personal sauna, washing machine, dryer, dish washer, maps, extra headlamps
Cottage is in great location. Everything worked nicely, lot of cooking utensils. I would stay there second time.
The location was excellent, both regarding airport connection as well as other services
