"One of the calmest places I’ve been to! It’s featuring beautiful landscape and very few people (we were outside of the high season). There are a lot of attractions such as snowmobiles, skiing slopes and cross-country skiing tracks - a lot of them! Also, there are a lot of options for activities such as dog sledges 😉 one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to, definitely recommend!"

"This was a lovely place to stay. Bigger than some Lapland places we have stayed in but not too big. Probably around 5/6 restaurants and pubs, a really good supermarket and alko shop.
Only a 5 min bus ride from the north slopes of Yllas ski resort and plenty of outdoor adventure companies providing the standard stuff - snowmobiles, huskies, northern lights etc."

This is probably, the nicest, most unique stay that I have ever had. The setting of the igloos is breathtaking, the actual igloos are so comfortable and well appointed. There is nothing to describe lying in a cosy bed looking at the stars, or opening your eyes to an orange glow across a frosty lake.
Breakfast was brilliant, so much choice, although I did discover that seems to be standard in Finland.
It is a beautiful, peaceful and calming environment. Oh and the staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble.

Absolutely fantastic! Worth every single euro spent. The igloo is luxurious and cozy, amenities are great, the location is beautiful. We saw the most amazing display of the northern lights/aurora from our bed, it could not have been more magical! Honestly though, even if we hadn’t seen the aurora it would still have been incredible. Highly recommend, it’s a once in a lifetime experience! Also, the breakfast is sooooo good!

Great food at Restaurant 21. At the time I visted in May, most tourist attractions were closed. If you don't know how to pay for parking and leave your car for 15 minutes you will get a ticket. I kind of regret visiting Rovaniemi, except for Restaurant 21, which has excellent food at reasonable prices.

I had a wonderful stay at the Wilderness Hotel (Inari) and would highly recommend it, especially to solo female travelers. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff were warm, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. They were happy to share local insights, activity suggestions, and practical tips, which made my stay feel both easy and well-supported.
The breakfast/dinner buffet was a real highlight, offering a generous selection of fresh, high-quality options in a relaxed and inviting setting. It was the perfect way to start/end the day.
The facilities were clean, comfortable, and very well maintained, with a strong sense of calm and care throughout the property. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and at ease at all times — the atmosphere was welcoming without being intrusive, and the hotel struck a great balance between comfort and simplicity.
The staff/guides (Mikko/Reeta/Inga/David/Sofia/Julia - to name a few) were all amazing ensuring everyone (especially for the activities) experienced their own level of satisfaction as a whole group, without compromising any one person's experience. They calmly and patiently answered questions and went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a high quality experience.
I was lucky enough to experience the Auroras two nights in a row during the Aurora Camp and Snowshoeing activities!
Overall, a lovely experience with attentive service, excellent amenities, and well maintained environment - I'm planning to come back during the summer!

Small town of mostly tourists.
Small town of mostly tourists. A great place to make short daily driving trips to see the view also from Norway-coastline! Usually it is a long way to drive here so I might suggest taking an extra day to recover from it.

In late January, it was the silence that made an impression. Little traffic on the road and respectful drivers towards pedestrians. Beautiful walks in the snow on the coast a short distance from town. Helpful people.

Akaslompolo is a cross country ski paradise and winter wonderland (February trip). Immaculate ski trials dotted with warming huts and cafes. Loved the winter fat biking too. Ski bus runs regularly if you want to ski one way routes. The supermarket was excellent which made a self catered trip a breeze. Well equipped outdoor stores catering to all your ski and sports equipment needs.

We had long sunny days but lots of snow (if mushy). The scenery is spectacular and the town is functional - not touristy or tacky. Lots of local skiers. We stayed for 6 days and did almost every activity but wished we could stay longer and enjoy more hikes

We really enjoyed the skiing, great place to learn in a really chilled, safe environment.
There are some fabulous restaurants but expect to pay.
Will definitely be returning!

The ski resort was very nice.
The ski resort was very nice. Also, Amethyst mine was great to visit. I recommend to everyone! My norther lights hunting was not successful because of the weather, but I will try again. If I had more time, I would love to cross country skiing and visit the national park nearby. I wish I could try to eat more local food from Lapland. Oh well, next time :)

Ivalo was absolutely beautiful , it is a small town but the experiences you may want to do are on the doorstep . This is a quieter peaceful Lapland resort which is ideal for adults wanting a peaceful retreat.If you have young children you may prefer Rovaniemi.
