The chateau, literally across the street, restaurants and shopping surround the hotel. Can't beat this location. Hotel breakfast buffet is excellent with many choices. Great choice of restaurants.
Great choice of restaurants. Beautiful chateau and extensive gardens. Multiple walks in the forest. I love the market and various stalls.
Café de France, (Rue Grande, close to the church) had authentic, traditional food. £9 glass of delicious champagne, herring and potato salad followed by mussels (various choice of sauces), delicious French fries and salad garnish. My daughter had a fabulous steak accompanied with fries and salad. Yummy bread. Great value for money and friendly service.

Lovely little town full of friendly people.
Lovely little town full of friendly people. The Chateau Fontainebleau was spectacular! My husband and I have toured Versailles twice, but always found it extremely crowded and so difficult to take things in, while being jostled by other guests. Fontainebleau was nothing like that at all. It IS a magnificent chateau, not to be missed in terms of size, architecture and beauty. What is missing is the crowds. Most of the time, we were alone in the rooms (save a few security guards). It made it so much more pleasant to be able to actually take our time and really look at things rather than being constantly jostled along by the crowds of tourists. If you are anywhere nearby, definitely take the time to see it.

Fontainebleau is easily the rival of Versailles, and the bonus is there are far less people squeezing around. The gardens are perfect for a stroll around the water features, people picnicking on the grass and exploring hidden gems within them. The Palace was amazing, without the gold bling of some but with vastly richer history and ornate features easily a match for anything.
The town clearly has a multitude of dining options, we got Italian from Pizza Mimi which was wonderful, and we found a quaint little church and some unique little shops in the short time after the Palace closed.
Skip the day-trip do yourself a favour and stay longer to properly explore everything this beautiful part of France just out of Paris has to offer.

We had a family break celebrating my 60th birthday on Easter Sunday and we met up with family who live nearby. There is plenary to do for the Easter break in the hotel. They provide everything you need and more. Lovely feel staff friendly. We didn’t eat food as we did our own celebrations but it looked lovely and well laid out. I would happily stay here again.

The location is great - central to Fontainebleau but also in a quiet spot. We enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony every morning. It was a real bonus to have private parking with a lift to our floor.
Old-world hotel located across from the chateau. Our room was spacious with natural light flowing in through the windows overlooking a palace with a lovely garden.
