Ballater is a beautiful village in the centre of a stunning location, plenty of walks and places to visit. Indian restaurant was really nice, lots of little local shops to browse through, would recommend a visit.
Great base for touring the area plus lots of amenities in Ballater to suit most people, variety of restaurants and shops etc. The town caters for the tourist. We liked the Balmoral Hotel for a drink or a bite to eat. We ate in the Lochnagar Indian Brasserie and the Clachan Grill both excellent. I spotted two bicycle hire shops as well.
Ballater is only a short distance from Balmoral and Braemar, with the Cairngorms right on the doorstep. Lovely small shops and 3 or 4 excellent restaurants. Its location is ideal for walkers and hikers. In our view it is the best place to stay when visiting the Cairngorms.
Love Ballater lovely flat golf course and very welcoming staff in shops are very friendly and helpful as they also are in the local cafes and restaurants Lovely walks just a very relaxing place for a holiday
Ballater is a lovely town in it's own right and a perfect base to explore the surrounding area. we found the "locals" very friendly and willing to talk about their town. a lot of history and good walking countryside with good variety of shops and cafes - even during these worrying times.
Ballater has long been a favourite spot of mine. It is a great base for anyone who loves hillwalking with paths for all competencies. For those looking to do Munros, they are within easy driving distance - or catch the bus and do linear walks (my favourite). For those looking for something less challenging Morven and the Coyles of Muick are shorter walks that provide glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Plenty for the cyclists to do as well - and options of where to hire a bike from. There isn't that much to do here if the weather is wet (plenty if it's snowing!) but they do have a wonderful bookshop (Deeside Books) where I've managed to pick up some second-hand bargains over the years.
The hotel was easy to find and had a nice cosy bar to sit in to enjoy a drink after dinner. The food was really nice, we had Soup and the Scotch egg to start and then we both had venison burgers which were really tasty! The breakfast in the morning was made to order and it was once of the nicest hotel breakfasts i've had! (Chorizo sausage and eggs). The room was spacious and had complimentary Scottish treats on arrival which was a nice touch.
The situation on the edge of Ballater was perfect and the little courtyard garden in the sun offered peace, quiet and fresh air. The little chalet was warm, comfortable and well appointed. The cooking facilities were well thought out and the hob responded instantly to temperature change. Great little kitchen with all we needed after our shopping trip! Loved the comfy bed and the shower worked well. The decor is restful and tastefully done.
Perfect property for two in a nice quiet location which was a short distance from Ballater with its golf course, restaurants, shops etc and a stones throw from Craigendarroch Country Club with its gym, squash court and swimming pool. Also a perfect starting point for the many varied walks in the area. The lit Xmas tree and bottle of prosseco waing for us was a nice surprise. Also plenty parking space for the car.
Welcoming from even from the outside, with fairy lights in the snow. It’s a classy place with a hostel price tag, even for the private rooms (super comfy bed with an awesome shower) Kitchen very well equipped and clean, common area cosy and welcoming with lots of suggestions for things to do in Ballater and the surrounding area. And the welcome from the owners was fabulous - we left feeling like old friends.
We were warmly welcomed as we arrived on our cycles, even though we were quite wet. Our host washed and dried our cycle gear and looked after us very well. This area is very expensive for accommodation, but we felt against this background we chose well. Highly recommend for those cycling Lands End to John O'Groats as the host is very cycle friendly!
The property itself has everything you need. Good kitchen with all appliances you could need. Good size living room and bedrooms. Warm and the outlook onto the local wildlife (squirrels so take peanuts as they love them). Near to the centre of the village of Ballater (10min walk) which has plenty places to eat and drink. Highly recommend.
Amazing facility across from the historic train station. Beautiful inside with fantastic proprietors! They provided great stories about the Queen, Prince Charles and many of the rest of the royal family who often come to Town. Breakfast was fantastic as were the accommodations. Stay here if you are able!
The Auld Kirk is a lovely small hotel, with comfortable rooms, fantastic hosts, and a delicious breakfast. The room was a great, with a very comfortable bed. Helen and Kevin couldn’t have been more helpful with any requests that we had and we will definitely stay there if we are in the area again.
Great proprietor, friendly and helpful! Room and bed Clean and comfortable. Updated bathroom. Great Mountain View’s. Delicious made to order breakfast with homemade granola, jams and muffins. Fruit and veggies from the garden. Walking distance to adorable town of Ballater.
Allison was so sweet and helpful and was genuinely interested in how your day was. The staff as well. The house was close to Ballater village, Balmoral, and Braemar. Beautiful countryside. Our room was spacious. A nice place to stay
We liked this hotel so much that we will return. This was our first visit to the area and the hotel offered a perfect location, the breakfast could not be faulted and the restaurant food in the evening was loved by everyone
