Located in Ballater in the Grampian region, Crannach House provides accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. There is a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. We were travelling for leisure purposes and had a very early start in the morning and the honest very kindly laid out our breakfast for us to allow us to eat before leaving. Lovely touch. Spacious room and loved the finishes of toiletries. Absolutely spotless.
Ballater is a lovely town in it's own right and a perfect base to explore the surrounding area. we found the "locals" very friendly and willing to talk about their town. a lot of history and good walking countryside with good variety of shops and cafes - even during these worrying times.
Ballater has long been a favourite spot of mine. It is a great base for anyone who loves hillwalking with paths for all competencies. For those looking to do Munros, they are within easy driving distance - or catch the bus and do linear walks (my favourite). For those looking for something less challenging Morven and the Coyles of Muick are shorter walks that provide glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Plenty for the cyclists to do as well - and options of where to hire a bike from. There isn't that much to do here if the weather is wet (plenty if it's snowing!) but they do have a wonderful bookshop (Deeside Books) where I've managed to pick up some second-hand bargains over the years.
Very nice town with good shops for local food, especially the bakery near the Coop and the Deli which sells lots of nice cheese. Local butcher looked excellent but did not get the opportunity to go in but plenty of people were queueing. I went to the tourist information and they were very helpful. I asked about the Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve and was given a useful leaflet and local maps of other places of interest. The local people also appeared very friendly and is was nice there was a park in the twon next to the church to be able to sit down and have a picnic. It was a welcome surprise there was golf course close to the town and a bike shop where there was good range of bikes to hire. The close proximity to Glen Muick and Lochnager made it for me! And a couple of good pubs in the town of course!
It is brilliant, with fantastic hosts and I really felt relaxed. Best sleep I have had for ages! The dog was accepted which as a big thing for us and we were glad that we could spent our time together.
Ballater is one of the most picturesque villages in Scotland, the perfect spot for a scenic, charming getaway. From the sweetie factory, to the butcher where the royals frequent for their meat, Ballater is full of unique quirks and delightful happenings.
A lovely village with friendly people. The perfect place for a relaxing few days away. We thoroughly enjoyed the Lochnagar Indian during our visit as the food was excellent. The autumnal colours made the views even more stunning, especially during our walk around Loch Muick. We also visited the Royal Lochnagar Distillery which we really enjoyed. The tour was interesting and the whisky tasting was a great way to end the visit. Would definitely recommend a visit here.
The property itself has everything you need. Good kitchen with all appliances you could need. Good size living room and bedrooms. Warm and the outlook onto the local wildlife (squirrels so take peanuts as they love them). Near to the centre of the village of Ballater (10min walk) which has plenty places to eat and drink. Highly recommend.
