In the Cairngorms National Park, this luxurious country house is 8 miles from Balmoral Castle and has a swimming pool, a beauty spa, gym and tennis court. The whole place was very nice, clean and very helpful..
Because of the many times I’ve stayed in Ballater I would find it difficult to be negative about anything. India on the Green is a very good restaurant as is I hear the Romsey Room. The School House is a fantastic B&B run by a most wonderful couple. I’m eagerly awaiting the re-opening of the Darroch Learg Hotel which was devastated by fire a few years ago. Numerous stays there and it was one of my favorite hotels in the world.
Ballater is a beautiful village with some nice shops, coffee shops, hotels and restaurants and it will be nice to see the station open again. We dined at the Rothesay Rooms which may have been a little expensive but faultless! The Indian on the Green was also nice with good food and the Deeside Hotel serve nice food albeit a little harassed staff and the Pheonix chip bar was great for a carry out supper. The stunning scenery was second to none - breathtaking as was Balmoral Castle, Lochnagar distillery, Crathie Church but the hidden gem for me was the lovely Braemar Castle where the staff were so informative and welcoming! A wonderful 4 day trip!
We generally ate at hotel, excellent choice of Menu. Would also recommend Hilton hotel restaurant and Rothesay Rooms restaurant. Visit the delightful Highgrove shop where the manageress was very pleasant and so helpful. Ballater is flat and therefore easy for walking. We used Ballater as a central point for visiting.
Lovely little village with great shops (the butchers, bakery and Balmoral Bar are particularly fab) and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Fantastic location for exploring RoyaL Deeside and the Cairngorms.
Ballater is a lovely village in Royal Deeside! There are a large # of shops, restaurants and cafés on the main street. The views from the village are spectacular, and the hiking and attractions in the area are outstanding! We did a 7 mile hike around Loch Muick and the unspoiled beauty was beyond compare!
Nice central point for visiting Balmoral and Braemar. Scenic routes and nice places to visit. Eating places were plentiful and car parking was free nearby hotel. Balmoral Arms was a good place to eat. Pub food at reasonable prices.

Ballater
Great location for ballater area and loch muick. Rooms facing back of house very quiet with mountain views. Very clean, tidy and cosy room. Possibly a bit small, but completely satisfactory for an overnight stay in the area. Breakfast room overlooking the ballater historical train station and square. Very nice full breakfast, lots of coffee, fruit, yogurts, cereals, plenty to set you up for walking, biking in the area. Host was very efficient, friendly and overall a very well-run B&B.
Ballater
Staff were really accommodating and changed rooms for us to a refurbished part of the building. It was the equivalent to changing hotels. From a tired room that consisted of tired bathroom, and one plug socket to share to a modern upbeat room. Be aware that a non refurbished room is very expensive for what you get. Location for both Ballater and the surrounding Cairngorms especially Balmoral is second to none.
Fantastic place to get away from everything, so peaceful. The tiny house had everything we wanted for our getaway. Close to Ballater, which is a lovely little town (village?) that has some nice restaurants, bike hire and walks around the local area. Couple of people live on the site, they were very friendly and told us about a scenic walking route to Ballater.
Ballater
Steve and Beth were wonderful hosts and very helpful. They answered all our questions, gave us great suggestions for places to eat and even suggested a great route for us to take to our next destination. In addition, Ballater is a beautiful little town and we found ourselves wishing we had more time to spend there. VERY Highly recommended!!!
Ballater
Walking distance to almost everything I needed in the village shopping area. The proximity to Balmoral Castle really surprised me too. Well manicured and very quiet neighbourhood, exactly what I wanted for a good break. Full marks to the self-catering facilities and cottage arrangement.
We liked this hotel so much that we will return. This was our first visit to the area and the hotel offered a perfect location, the breakfast could not be faulted and the restaurant food in the evening was loved by everyone
This hotel is located in great spot for the Deeside old railway cycling route and not far from Ballatar. Many walks are located nearby. It has beautiful grounds and confortable rooms. Staff was very helpful and welcoming
