From the second we walked through the door, being shown our rooms, when ordering and eating dinner and drinks until we left after breakfast the following morning, the staff were all exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The property is very cosy, clean and an overall relaxing place to be in. The only 4 I have given is for the limited wifi access but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

A walk around town.

A walk around town. All our meals at the Peppermill and other locations. Visited one old church. Wish we had time to walk around the other areas, the castle, the 'newer' church. The CAEN HILL LOCKS. What a wonder! You must find the car park and plan to spend at least a couple of hours here and speak to the boat people that are moving through. They will have the time while the locks fill! We were amazed.

Devizes is a town full of quirky shops, has a lot of history. It has an amazing set of 29 locks that can be walked around very easily . Devizes is also in a fairly central position so that places like Bath are easily reached !

Devizes is a nice market town with cafes and independent shops. Within walking distance is the Kennet & Avon canal and the spectacular Caen Hill locks (a long series of locks that allow boats to navigate the hill). At the top is a nice cafe. Devizes is surrounded by other nice little market towns and is not far from Bath so it is a great touring base.

A lovely historic market town that has a good mix of...

A lovely historic market town that has a good mix of historic urban and nearby nature, as well as being a launch-pad to explore Wiltshire (eg Avebury stone circles, Silbury Hill, etc). Compact town that's easy to walk around - canals and woodlands too. A bit of a shame the historic 'castle' location is private land and inaccessible, but plenty else to see. Bonus: the Wiltshire Museum is located in the town and is pretty good value, with lots of things for the kids to interact with - building/drawing/reading etc - among some amazing artefacts

There's a great market in the centre of Devizes every...

There's a great market in the centre of Devizes every Thursday, around the historic market cross in front of the Corn Exchange and the Bear Hotel. Would have liked to explore it if we had stayed longer. Also to visit the indoor antiques market , Wadsworth Brewery, the castle and the museum in Devizes and to explore the local shops and tea rooms.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located. The town looks to be in decline with some key employers closing down. Wadsworth's brewery, is in the process of being demolished, so a bit of an eyesore. The market square is partly closed to traffic due to a fire in a kebab shop and locals tell me this is impacting in footfall to the town. Sad to see it this way. Great if you like charity shops and Turkish barbers! White Bear pub is still superb though:)

We like absolutely everything about the Bear hotel! Breakfast is exceptionally good, you have to try their bacon sarnie! Location is right in the heart of the beautiful town of Devizes. All the staff are wonderful without exception. Free parking in their car park at back, plenty of spaces. Cost of stay is superb, I've stayed at many hotels in the UK over the years and the ones that have come anywhere close to the Bear Hotel's standard cost at least double the Bear's rate. I could go on & on...

Beautiful & interesting Old Mill. Our room was incredibly spacious, very comfortable bed, excellent shower and the added bonus of 2 very comfortable arm chairs. Lovely breakfast, we indulged in Full English and plentiful choices of toast, fruit salad and cereals, with excellent tea and coffee. Dedicated parking and only a short drive into the centre of Devizes. We can’t thank Yvonne & Alan enough for being such gracious hosts and really looking after us. Thank you so much, we will be back!

This was a spacious well appointed room. But where this room surpassed others was there was more than enough towels, there wasn't just two coffees and two teas there were more - there were two shower heads so you could choose which shower to have. Little extras which made all the difference. There was an A4 sheet suggesting where you could eat out or get a takeaway and eat in - this put this hotel in the exceptional bracket.

We had a great time staying here. Hotel was neat and tidy. Well modernised. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Very central to devizes. Lots of good pubs nearby. Really good experience, absolutely would go back.

The whole hotel was in great order with very few of the knocks and scrapes that can occur. Room included robes, tissues and bottled water and splendid crisp sheets.
