I got a lovely complimentary loaf of bread, milk, butter and jam left for me plus all the essentials were in the cupboard like tea and coffee making breakfast easy. I loved the easy access using the key safe. All the windows had blinds so I could relax all cosy watching TV as well as cook myself some tea whilst travelling with work.

There's a great market in the centre of Devizes every...

There's a great market in the centre of Devizes every Thursday, around the historic market cross in front of the Corn Exchange and the Bear Hotel. Would have liked to explore it if we had stayed longer. Also to visit the indoor antiques market , Wadsworth Brewery, the castle and the museum in Devizes and to explore the local shops and tea rooms.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located. The town looks to be in decline with some key employers closing down. Wadsworth's brewery, is in the process of being demolished, so a bit of an eyesore. The market square is partly closed to traffic due to a fire in a kebab shop and locals tell me this is impacting in footfall to the town. Sad to see it this way. Great if you like charity shops and Turkish barbers! White Bear pub is still superb though:)

Stationed here 60 years ago so already knew it was a lovely town with lively shops and market.The hotel was featured in Far from the madding crowd film in 1967. The series of locks at Caen are worth a visit,as is a visit to the famous brewery.

The town is bustling during the day and has plenty of shops to browse. It's easily walkable so we just spent the day pottering around and soaking up the atmosphere. There is quite a lot of history here and some town trails to follow. On a nice day, a walk along the canal is pleasant. There is a varied choice of pubs and restaurants for the evening. Beer drinkers will know this is the Wadsworth Brewery town although sadly the is no Brewery Tap at the moment.

The walk along the canal, the independent shop's, the pubs, food ,everything central lots of parking not that we used it ,Thursday Market day .we ate at the castle Inn and at the bear hotel excellent on both occasions, friendly staff great food .

I was so disappointed with Devizes.

I was so disappointed with Devizes. It was a historic town that should have kept us walking and looking but it had a feeling of being very run down, despite having some fine historic buildings. The surrounding countryside was delightful though and it was close to Broadway, Bourton-on-the-water etc.

Great hotel bang in the middle of Devizes. You can park around the back of the hotel (there is a car park opposite also but you have to be aware of market days when you can't park there). It's lovely and old but has been updated to cater for modern use. I just booked a double room but it was huge and had a wonderful big bath. Bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in, would happily have stayed longer if I could! If you get chance, walk around the area, it's a brilliant place if you're into history.

Beautiful cosy barn, extremely peaceful, the generous access to logs for the stunning log burner was refreshing, well equip with everything you require and more. Immaculately clean, I could not believe how crisp and clean it was considering dogs are welcome. Lovely, supportive hosts, I was there for business and would recommend over any corporate box room in large chain hotels. The biscuits were delicious (I left the prosecco as on a business trip) But lovely touch.

Very comfortable accommodation in the centre of Devizes. Newly fitted out and furnished, very comfortable bed. Excellent cooked breakfast, we had smoked salmon and scrambled egg. Cold breakfast options a bit limited. Very quiet, despite being in the centre of town. No parking at the hotel, short stay parking close by, long stay a couple of hundred yards away. Nearby on-street paring overnight or all day on Sundays.

I have stayed at the Castle Hotel in the past and highly recommend it. Location is excellent for exploring Devizes, right in the centre and, for me, a quick bus ride up to Avebury. The room was comfortable, good shower, and good choices for breakfast, which was all table service with a choices sheet to fill in (and change as you chose). Definitely will be back there.
