The location is in a picturesque little town with terrific restaurants and at least one good pub. However, to get to Stonehenge, it is best to take a tour bus from the train station.

I would strongly recommend not doing the standard trip that will put you there with gazillion people and your pictures will have hundreds of photo-bombers. Stay at Salisbury at one of their hotels, then book an early morning taxi before sunset (we stayed at Amesbury.. while that is closer to Stonehenge, it was not wise as the taxis come in from Salisbury anyway). Taxi dropped us at a road behind Stonehenge, and there was an open gate with a path right by the official roped off path. This way, we could see the Stonehenge from fairly close, not touch it though (which is fine!), with absolutely nobody else in sight, and see sunrise. The place is spiritual, and an early morning trip feels that way.

Well worth a visit if only to ponder how people that long ago managed to move and raise such enormous stones. Hopefully the long proposed tunnel will eventually be built. That will remove the background traffic noise from the A303.

Loved it. Not my first visit though.

Tip- wear flat sensible foot wear, use the conveniences at the stonehenge centre before you visit, get the free bus if you don't want to walk though fields and woodland, take drinks and take your rubbish home with you.

We stayed in nearby Amesbury, which allowed to arrive at Stonehenge nice and early. Thus avoiding the steadily increasing number of visitors. We also took the opportunity to book the entry tickets online before leaving home.

Very nice room with handwrtten notice from the staff made us feel very welcome. Good dinner and excellent breakfast. Off street parking behind the hotel. Great location for Stonehenge, Old Sarum etc.
I arrived late and left early so didn't use any facilities apart from the room. The hotel was fairly basic but was also cheap and so I thought that it was good value. The room was clean and well decorated etc.
It's 10 minutes drive from Stonehenge so very convenient for that. I'd stay there again.
Location was excellent for visiting the nearby attractions including the Stonehenge, which was only about 10 mins drive away from the hotel. The room was clean, spacious and well fitted with all amenities. Breakfast buffet was superb with a very good selection, and food was quite tasty as well. Very friendly staff at the reception and restaurant.
Breakfast buffet was good. Dinner was pleasant as well. Room was comfortable and quiet for a hotel by a main highway. Location was great for a visit to Stonehenge.
Very good hotel. Large, spacious room and very comfortable. A really nice breakfast and good, friendly service. As we were going to a wedding at 11:00am, the hotel agreed to keep our luggage and then put it into the room when the room was ready. A good location in Amesbury town centre, very close to the likes of Stonehenge and Salisbury
If you travel to see Stonehenge, that's the place to stay. We loved the Thai restaurant! The hotel doesn't have parking, but it is just opposite (you have to pay for it, though)
We had one of the newly refurbished annexe rooms and it was really roomy with plenty of room for a family if needed. The bed was huge and really comfy! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and breakfast was served in a characterful dining room. The hotel is excellently situated for visiting Stonehenge.
Perfectly close to stonehenge and has everything you need in the apartment itself at a much better price that all the other local hotels and B&Bs in the area, and if you don't want to cook yourself theres a good few options seconds away.
