Boasting a garden and free WiFi, Durham house hotel is set in Gateshead. All guest rooms in the hotel are fitted with a TV. A continental breakfast is available every morning at Durham house hotel. The owner went out of his way to cater for my daughter who is gluten free. The room was very comfortable.
Conveniently located off the A1 at the Metro Centre, this hotel is 10 minute drive from Newcastle city centre. We liked the room layout, very modern.. we loved the free ice machine in the lobby that was accessible at any time. I read some of the reviews about breakfast, it's very adequate considering it's included in the room price. We had just stayed 3 nights prior in the premier inn and the hoilday inn knocked spots off it as they say! We wish we had just stayed in the hoilday inn for the week. Very clean and tidy throughout and we checked in early as well which was a bonus. Really nice atmosphere from the staff, and lovely to see they were doing cake mornings trying to raise money for Alzheimer's charity. We really enjoyed our stay and will be returning. Also if you dont drive the metro shopping centre is about 15 minutes walking or 5 minutes in a taxi which cost approx £4.00. There are few restaurants around this hotel such as tgi Fridays ") Thankyou very much!
Just off the A1 and right outside the MetroCentre, Europe's largest leisure and retail complex, this 4-star hotel offers a convenient location, luxurious, modern rooms and great comforts and... Xlnt good sized room, well appointed. Great bed and bathroom. Great leisure facilities.
With free parking and good-value en suite rooms, this stylish and modern hotel is just off the A1(M) and only 4 km from Newcastle's city centre and quayside nightlife, the Metro Centre is only 1.6 km... The bed was amazingly comfy!!! Curtains kept the room perfectly dark when I came back from my night out!!

Just off the A1 in Gateshead, this Premier Inn has free parking, family-friendly rooms and a Flaming Grill Pub Restaurant. Newcastle city centre is a 10-minute drive away. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was basic but had all of the essentials we needed.
On average, 3-star hotels in Gateshead cost £58 per night, and 4-star hotels in Gateshead are £90 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Gateshead can on average be found for £81 per night (based on Booking.com prices).
Great hotel staff. Nothing too much trouble. Having relaxed a friendly staff make so much of a difference when you're staying away. Room as expected, clean, tidy and standard. Breakfast great, even a choice of veggie sausages! Our evening meal was perhaps a little expensive, but you know what, it was nice, didn't have to drive out and the banter and chat with the staff made it well worth it. We enjoyed our stay.
So Gateshead town centre isn't exactly a tourist destination but the quayside is part of a vibrant cultural centre, the walks along the Tyne are great and you can easily cross over to the Newcastle side. Around the town are a huge array of places to visit from Beamish Open Air Museum to Gibside, a short distance to the coast or inland to the under-rated Durham Moors or north to Northumberland. We had a superb three course meal for £8.99 (honestly!) in Radhuni (Indian restaurant) on Ocean Road in South Shields.
Gateshead is very different to the town I grew up in. It has been brought up to date with aplomb. Great facilities, good shopping, place looking good. Still has some shabby buildings - but which town doesn't.
Gateshead is not St. Tropez on the Med. nor San Jose on the west coast of California. It is a post-industrial, mainly working class town on the south bank of the Tyne, opposite Newcastle. It has its rough spots but it is not without its hidden gems. Probably the best thing about it are the locals who speak with a broad Geordie twang laced with a very sardonic sense of humour. You'll find good pubs and restaurants in Low Fell and Whickham and if you fancy a nice stroll then, Saltwell Park is a really lovely place to stretch your legs and get a bit of fresh air. Also, it is generally slightly cheaper than Newcastle. Communications are good and it is easy to get to anywhere in Tyneside from there. Set your expectations correctly and it is fine. In truth, you can do a lot worse than a stay in Gateshead.
Nice location, nice people, shame about the rest. · The staff were all very friendly, the location is good for Gateshead. Breakfast was nice. · The evening meal was very expensive for what was mediocre food and small portions. £25 for 2 courses and additional cost for a steak (half of which was inedible). Our room had privacy glass on the window as it looked out onto another roof. The smell from the kitchen extractor into our room was unpleasant, we couldn’t open the window. We had one bathrobe and one towel for a couple... the room cost £85 for the night, £137 with dinner. Not great value.
What a fabulous place to visit. So easy to get round with Newcastle on the doorstep. The Quay Side is a must see on a visit. The choice of food and bars second to none. The Iconic Bridges were Fab all lit up. Taxis were easy to book and cheap!

No personal contact on arrival, Its an automated process where you're given access codes for door entry. All works ok. Local Asda 5 minute walk, Gateshead centre about 10 minute walk in opposite direction so quite ok for out and about. Everything you need in the apartment, it was well presented and perfectly clean. Designated parking slot is handy too.

Very friendly staff. Lovely and clean. Great food in the restaurant. Only criticism would be that the rooms could do with a re-furb.. they are a bit dark. This didn't spoil it in any way, and the hotel was more than adequate for our needs. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Good location to get taxi to Newcastle no issues with area, Don't be put off on first impressions locals are very friendly and for the price can not complain! Great shop on bottom road to stock up on food and booze, brill café can not fault the place, It isn't a romantic getaway but ideal if there's a group of you with plenty of room TV and Wi-Fi available.
