So much to see and do. Very walkable city.
So much to see and do. Very walkable city. But there are some challenging paths and stairs. Friendly people. So much History in that area. Some of towns look straight out of a Dickens Novel. Also be sure to Visit Cromford and Scarthins Book Store. Book Lovers Paradise!

Matlock is a lovely little spa town set in beautiful...
Matlock is a lovely little spa town set in beautiful Derbyshire countryside. It has a great atmosphere with lots of small independent shops. There are also some good supermarkets. There is also a lovely park. It is a very convenient location for exploring Derbyshire, with some great attractions close by.

I’d definitely recommend more than one night away at Matlock...
I’d definitely recommend more than one night away at Matlock. We went to Lumsdale Waterfall and walked from Matlock train station, with having the children, it took us a little longer to get there but was well worth it. We also went to Heights of Abraham on the second day and there’s so much to see and do there, we wish we had stayed a little longer to do the arcades, go to Matlock aquarium, Hall Leys Park, explored the town more and go on the boats. Also, if you’d want to go at a bit of a slower pace, I’d recommend staying longer for this reason. We could’ve happily spent more time at the accommodation as it felt very homely and relaxed and plenty of outdoor space including a hot tub. I’d recommend families, couples or travelling solo to come to Matlock, we certainly loved it. Plenty of play areas for the little ones too.

Great new park since we last visited including a skate park and a nice garden area with lots of benches and bee friendly flowers. Beautiful walk along the river. Had a lovely time poking about in the shops and the market. Ate at Stones restaurant which was fabulous.

The town is quite small, and there seem to be fish and chip shops on almost every corner! One thing we found really frustrating was that many businesses—including ice cream shops, cafés, and other small shops—only accepted cash. In this day and age, that felt very outdated. We were directed to a cash machine that charged a withdrawal fee, so we decided to skip getting ice cream altogether. It would be great to see more businesses accepting card payments.

Matlock is a lovely place for a short stay, close to the Peak District, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Monsal Viaduct. Some lovely independent shops, charity shops and cafes. I recommend the Garden Room for lunch as it overlooks a lovely area of Matlock. Some of the streets are quite steep though so might be difficult for those with limited mobility.

It’s a really quirky place- but with lots of atmosphere. What made it (other than some fine cooked breakfasts and a great range of options) was the cave at the back of the hotel which was fascinating. Thought it would be super noisy- especially as it’s right outside the main road through Matlock Bath- which is heaving in the daytime. However, the double glazed windows reduced much of it and the place is pretty quiet after 9pm.

Continental breakfast was excellent - no decaf coffee option. The cooked breakfast looked lovely but is priced at £8.99 extra.
The rooms had tea and coffee.
The hotel is situated 10 mins walk from Matlock Bath and Matlock Town.
Each room has a TV with basic channels. One can log in to YouTube, Amazon Prime or Netflix TV with your own log in.
There is a bar and a restaurant, but I didn't use them.

Location of hotel is superb..literally a 5 minute walk into lovely matlock bath..we had garden room. The back of the hotel needs some serious tidying up as it looks terrible from outside however once inside the rooms was really nice with great view of garden and outdoor lido..breakfast was nice goid choice and well made..staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Absolutely gorgeous accommodation, so cosy! And in a fab location - lots of shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance. And a short walk into Matlock Bath. Would definitely stay again.
