A lovely place to visit at any time of year, but most enjoyable on a sunny day as you can appreciate the beach facilities ior sit out to eat in many restaurants/cafes and pubs. Steam train to Corfe is fun but the journey is only 15 minutes, so goes quick and isn’t terribly cheap, but money goes to a good cause keeping the line running.
Swanage is set within a beautiful Bay, fabulous outlook scenery wise. The Beach is clean, golden with a hard walkway from one end to the other. Several clean public WC facilities along the promenade and hard walkway. There are lots of eating and drinking facilities close by, a Market Town Centre just off the Beach for when you wish for a break from the Beach. Plenty of Council or Private Hire Beach Huts, some in better condition than others... but this facility was being very well used upon August Bank Holiday weekend. The compulsory Amusements at a seaside resort, but not too big ones, along with a park above sea level with a bandstand, children's play park, grassed areas with benches located around the whole facilities, a small funfair amusement type park and of course because this is set higher, wonderful views across the whole Swanage Bay. An added bonus is that Swanage Steam Railway is just at town centre top, only 5 stops, around 25 minutes of nostalgia total and Corfe Castle being the 4th stop, worth an outing... There are also ferry trips from both Swanage Pier and Poole Harbour, along with Coastal walks. A beautiful seaside market town, we/I have visited 6 times now, majority being day trips, this being a 2 hour 20 minute trip one-way (well worth trip though). Visit the old Curiosity and Crystal shops, the Curiosity shop is a maze!!! We will hopefully no doubt visit many time more over the coming years, both being retired, in our mid 60's, but also love walking or just sitting by the sea taking all onboard...
The sea front is very pleasant and there are lots is interesting shops. The food and welcome at The Ship Inn were excellent . It is very hilly in places and not always easy for anyone with mobility issues. We also enjoyed visiting Poole Quay and Harbour and Durlston country park. Corfe castle village is very pretty and we had a good meal in the Fox Inn. The castle is high on a hill and the paths are very steep but it is interesting to see.
Good range of shops and restaurants. Beach is clean and there’s lots to do. We are in The Anchor for lunch which was nice but a bit overpriced. We had dinner at Masala and it was one of the best curries we’ve ever had.
A super, traditional British seaside resort. It has all the cafes, shops and facilities you would expect but it is compact and friendly. The centre is built on the flat but the sides of the valley are very steep.
Swanage is a beautiful place to visit and very dog friendly. Theres some gorgeous restaurants to as my partner lived on fresh fish while we were there and said it was beautiful. We took the steam train to corfe castle with the dog and had a great walk around the village there, we had asked all the way along Swanage beach and back just sightseeing, this place is like a lovey traditional yet modern place to visit, there was a lovely mix of people of all ages and the beach wasn’t crazy busy with families it was more relaxed and by far one of the nicest places we visited along the coast.
