The main hotel is really lovely. Staff were lovely and we were able to have a tour of the dungeon on request which was really interesting! Breakfast was fine. Room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Overall, good value for money.

The restaurant served good food (albeit ever so slightly on the expensive side - main course £16pp for fish and chips, £7 for apple pie and ice cream).
The view is lovely and very scenic overlooking fields and countryside.
Staff were friendly

This little hotel is quant and beautiful - as it was 21 years ago when we had our wedding reception here. The only difference is that now the rooms are no longer a bit moth eaten and dusty around the edges but instead really gorgeous. The renovations are contemporary but very much in keeping with the original features. The stairs are still as squiffy as you’d expect from a building of this age, and it hasn’t lost any of the lovely character.
The 17th-century Old Well Inn is in the town of Barnard Castle, with a traditional cosy bar and spacious en suite rooms that each have a TV and tea/coffee making facilities.
