Featuring free WiFi and air conditioning, the traditionally Pahivouni Studios & Suites is built on a hill in Donoussa, just a 3-minute walk from Stavros Village. Advance communication was clear and friendly. Vassilis was an excellent host, giving us a warm welcome and all the information we needed to explore the island, beaches, restaurants etc. Our room was clean and spacious and had a wonderful view. The bed really comfortable. The property is just a little way (3 minutes walk) up from the port and so it is quiet but really close for the restaurants and bars. We loved catching the bus around the island to Kalotaritissa as well as hiking some of the trails to other beaches.

Located in Donoussa, a 11-minute walk from Kedros Beach and 1.5 miles from Vathi Limenari Beach, Ammos Studios has city views and free WiFi. Great location right at the harbour, the place was super modern, seemed newly rennovated and therefore very clean. We really enjoyed staying at Ammos Studios because the hosts were very friendly and attentive - and the terrace is amazing!
Donousa is a small island, perfect if you want only relaxing and not having to drive 40-50 minutes and more to go to a beach. It has 4 main beaches: Stavros (next to the port, but that doesn't mean the water is dirty - on the contrary it's very clear and nice), Kedros (accessible through a 15 minute walk tops), Livadi (accessible by car and then a walk for 20-25 minutes or, better, by a small boat), Fokospilia (where you can go only by boat and dive) and Kalotaritissa (25-30 minutes drive with car, taxi or the local bus if you are lucky and it's working properly). I can't say i enjoyed the food. I found some good options, mostly in the restaurant Iliovasilema. Some told me Agnanti and Ampelaki are also good. I would not recommend strongly any other. Maybe the tavern in Kalotaritissa. I liked that the island has many cats and the locals are taking care of them. As for the nightlife, the place to be is Skantzohiros (it's exactly across the port). You can chat, you can flirt, you can dance. A friend who has been there 3 times told me about the bar at the beach Stavros, but i never saw too many people there. If i had to rate mh experience, i would rate it with 7/10
Donousa is a quite island that is highly recommended for relaxing vacations. There are a couple of places to have a drink, several places to eat, a mini market, a grocery and a bakery. The island is small and it does not really need a car since you can go to the other two villages with the local bus that connects the port with them. The beaches are beautiful. Be prepared that there is no much shadow (bring a beach umbrella!) You will fully enjoy beautiful beaches and nice food! There are also paths for hiking from where you can enjoy magnificent view of the Aegean sea. For years, Donousa was a place for free camping but this year (2020) the local authorities forbid it. So for you free campers, stay tuned and get the latest update before deciding to go. There are enough rooms to accommodate visitors, however since it is a small island, for peak season make sure to reserve your room early enough.
Donoussa is the Greece I remember but with a little more comfort. A very laid back island with excellent beaches, wild landscapes and amazing restaurants. If you want fast paced with lots to do don’t come. If you want a touch of magic, authenticity and to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures this is for you. I recommend llivasilema for a sunset dinner, kedros for a laid back beach experience and stunning cliff top view. Catch the bus or boat or if your fit walk!
It was such a peaceful, low-key island, so if you’re into that, I highly recommend it. Being there infuses you with a sense of freedom not felt in the same way on some of the other more touristy islands. Also, I found that Donousa had some of the best food I’ve had on my travels to the Greek islands. While the island doesn’t have a whole host of restaurants, the ones they do have are delicious (Agnanti, Mitsos, Iliovasilema).
We really enjoyed our stay on Donoussa. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and unpretensious people (both locals and tourists). The island invites you to relax, enjoy the little things and just slow down. What we loved most: - Corona Borealis bar: amazing food, nice setting, friendly and relaxed staff. - TziTzi: Also amazing food, friendly owner - the hike to Fykio beach (beach not that great, but the walk was awesome) - boat trip to Kalotaritissa Note: on most beaches, people tend to get completely naked. If that’s not your thing, stick to Stavros and the main beach at Kalotaritissa.
Donousa is a small but beautiful island with hiking trails and stunning beaches & scenery. The port and harbour is quite charming and is the typical picturesque Greek fishing village. Good ferry service from Naxos on Skopelitis or via Blue Star Ferries. Come when summer season is in swing otherwise few transportation options (1 taxi). No scooter or car rentals or gas station on the island. Some good restaurants in the town with good food and service. Lovely walks.
