Being surrounded by the mountains in an oasis of gardens, tropical fish that were incredibly beautiful to watch, the sounds of water throughout. I found it so tranquil and calming to the soul. Very accessible to Sparta and shopping district. Many nice taverns were close by for local fare. We didn't do much sightseeing. I have seen the ancient landmarks before. We mostly were relaxing. Enjoyed the pool very much. Everywhere you look there is beauty!
Mystras is a beautiful place - so peaceful. The old castle town has so much to explore; we spent about 4 hours there. The hike up to the top castle is a lot (for me anyways - I'm young, but not super in shape), but definitely worth it. Not as many people make it all the way to the top, but that is the best part! I loved that we could climb up and all around; they don't have much blocked off.
Excellent Byzantine and Frankish ruins and churches, some restored, spread over an attractive hillside. We visited the hilltop castle ruins first, from the top car park: we might not have got there otherwise after walking the hill paths to the other buildings, which are spread over quite a wide area Allow half a day to see this place.
BYZANTINE RUINS Great visit to Mystras byzantine site. We went with kids, all had a great time. Read about it before you go, bring snacks and water, there is no cafe. Be prepared for lots of climbing up and down on cobbled streets. There are some helpful reading stands along the way. One of our favorite places so far. Dont miss St Sophia church and the monastery with nuns and cats. THE TOWN The town is very lovely, wish we had time to walk around more, but it was raining. Great hiking, we read. Saving for next time! FOOD We ate at The Greek. Loved the lamb chops and salads. They gather their spring greens in the mountains (they are cooked). Large enough for a tour group and one pulled up as we were ordering, but the service did not suffer.
Amazing, and, huge Byzantine city. Opens new prospective to understanding meadieval history of Europe. Easy access by car. Takes more than 3 hrs to visit all sites, when walking from lower gate to the fortress at the top of the hill, and, back. If not eager to walk a lot, use car to get from lower to upper entrance. You can re-enter with same ticket. Choose to wear hiking shoes/boots -makes your trip much easier. Unfortunately Despot's palace was closed at the time of our visit(end of September 2018). However, it didn't make our visit less impresive.
The hike up to the castle was gorgeous. Wish I had worn more solid shoes. Tennis shoes worked fine, but it’s very rocky amd my feet were sore through my sneakers. 😀 We loved the visit, and stopped partway down the mountain to eat lunch. It was super windy just minutes after we had left, and with a 15 minute hike back down, make sure to check the weather,
A nice little area with a pool, perfect for camping, if a little crowded. The manager was very nice a polite. It's about a 15 minute walk to nearby Mystras, and from the town its another 25 minute walk to the archaeological site. Would recommend renting a car or getting a taxi as it is quite uphill.
Just perfect - location, room, breakfast and staff! From sipping a cool glass of wine overlooking Mystras and Sparti to waking up to a basket of delicious breakfast delivered to your room. We can not recommend this hotel enough. Very relaxing and super friendly staff- thank you!
the location is out of this world. an escherian maze of stone staircases, curtain walls and arches up high in the mountains above the evrotas river valley. i didn't know these places still exist. the owners are very warm people, and the inn itself is a piece of art.
Fabulous hotel, great beds, amazing shower!!! Pool area is nice with a pool bar. Spa is very nice. When landscape matures, it will be unbelievable. The surroundings are awesome. Many excellent restaurants within 1 mile.
Maria is lovely and professional. Great location. Beautiful hotel. Delicious break.
Close to Mystras breakfast was good and a nice swimming pool. Staff was friendly 😀
Spacious room. Good shower. Perfect location in the center of Mystras.
