Symi town is basically a big harbour surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants. The village is set on the hillside with many steep staircases, it is very picturesque. My wife and I enjoyed it and will definitely return. The Nos beach is small and stony however there are many taxi boats available to take you to other beaches if you want. Warning If you arrive on a large ferry there are no transfer available and it is a 20 minute walk into town or 35 minutes to the far side of the harbour, most unpleasant on a hot day with suitcases. Loved the authentic Greek feel of Symi - everyone we met was super helpful and Pedi Beach Hotel was the perfect location for us. A very reliable bus ran every hour into Gialos and the water taxi left regularly for local beaches - all at very reasonable prices. Pedi is lovely. The people who live there are welcoming. The old town is interesting with a brilliant little museum. The harbour is attractive very early morning and in the evening when the trip boats have gone. The Utopia bakery in the harbour has excellent bread, pies and cakes. Tolis taverna in Pedi is a great location with good basic food and excellent service. The bus service is very good. The hotel is runned by the superhost Nicolas and his lovely wife. The room was cozy and clean with comfortable beds and a small balcony. Delicious breakfast! Nicolas is very friendly and social. He told us a lot, about the history of Symi and about the people on the island. He gave us valuable information and tips about restaurants etc. and helped us with our heavy luggage.
