If you are seeking a hideaway from Bali’s chaotic Kuta, Ubud provides a welcome respite with its secluded paths, calming temples and specialised spa resorts. Surrounded by rice paddies, coconut trees and lush forests of green, Ubud is seen as the cultural centre of Bali.

There's a lot to see and do in Ubud and the surrounds. We made the mistake of staying up in Tegallalang, too remote and taxis harder to get if your not using a scooter. In hindsight it would be better to stay in Ubud and do day trips from there. Then you have access to all the amenities Ubud has to offer. The traffic is crazy in Ubud, but you somehow get used it and find the quieter spots. Don't go out at 5pm rush hour! I like the quiet backstreets and there's so many eateries if you stayed a year I doubt you'd get to try them all.Guest review byKarenNew Zealand - 8.0

I have to start with the food.
I have to start with the food. It's excellent in it's freshness, variety and quality. You can eat real, wholesome food for every meal. The Balinese people are so welcoming and friendly. We've never had such a reception in any other country. Take some time to learn how to greet and thank the people and you'll be rewarded with a lovely smile. Ubud's infrastructure is suffering under the heavy tourist load. Good central place to stay and central to visiting other places. Can be a bit crowded but that is true of every popular tourist destination. Ubud is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Bali.
Ubud is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Bali. It is very safe to walk around both day and night (I am a woman and travel solo), and the town is full of life with so many things to enjoy. There are countless delicious restaurants, cozy cafés, massage and nail salons at very good prices, as well as plenty of bars serving fresh and tasty cocktails. Shopping is great too, with lots of boutiques, local markets, and art everywhere you look, Ubud is truly the cultural heart of Bali. I always choose to stay in Ubud and take private tours from there to explore the rest of the island, as it is very central and convenient.
