Bantry is located on the Sheep's Head peninsula and within driving distance of the Beara peninsula. The town is quite small, with not many interesting shops, but has some good restaurants - our favourite was O'Connor's Seafood Restaurant - and lots of beautiful scenery and touristy villages within an easy driving distance (up to 1 hour). Highlights for us were 1. Gougane Barra - the oratory on the lake, hiking in the nearby forest park, and coffee from Cronin's cafe; 2. Sheep's Head lighthouse - there are a number of hikes in this area; we did the shortest Loop walk. (See guide book by Adrian Hendroff) 3. Garnish Island tour from Glengariff 4. Scenic drive around the Beara peninsula taking in Allihies, Eyeries, Castletown Bere and the Healy Pass. 5. Kenmare 6. Bantry House
Bantry is a great location to position yourself for a long weekend break in West Cork. However with current Covid restrictions there isn't much happening at night. A stay in Bantry relies on making the most of the outdoors. This means you can be at the mercy of the weather espcially on some of the more scenic hikes. Be prepared for all kinds of weather if considering a summer trip in West Cork. I would recommend though. And will be returning again
Bantry is well worth a short visit. The town was lively during the day with some good shops. The best tourist attraction was Bantry House. It is well worth a visit and entry fee is reasonable for a tour of the house and gardens. The view of Bantry Bay from the top of the gardens is amazing.
I went to Bantry to photograph the Sheeps Head area. Stayed at Daoireleith B&B which was excellent for the purpose. I found the town itself a little quiet ( as expected in the pandemic), but it had good places for evening meal etc

Siobhan provided a lovely place to stay. We had a suite & our girls had their own room. Both were excellent. The breakfast was fantastic, with fresh squeezed juice & freshly baked breads, cheeses, meats, cold options & cooked to order hot options. The views of the bay were terrific. Not many TV stations to choose from, but this is not a place to sit & watch TV. Siobhan even offered to ship me my rain jacket I had left in the town of Bantry. Lovely place! You'll not go wrong staying there.

Breakfast was wonderful, multiple choices for adults and kids. Nothing is a problem for Peggie, she's a wonderful host and we had a wonderful stay. would highly recommend Bru na Pairc. Bantry is also a nice location for exploring surrounding areas and has a nice town itself. Peggie goes above and beyond when it comes to service and treats the kids as if they were her own grandchildren. They were spoiled for breakfast with hot chocolate or smoothies each morning on top of everything else.
This property is located just a couple of miles from Bantry. The views here are beautiful and the house is in a very private location. Bantry town is on the shores of Bantry Bay and in addition to the lovely scenery, there are great facilities in the town. The kitchen is very well equipped and the walk in shower is a treat. The stair lift was not required by us, but a blessing to anybody wanting to bring elderly parents on holiday.
