I think this place is overrated.
I think this place is overrated. You won't get inside a French Utopia as you would have expected looking through photos. That is just a tiny part of the city. It is suitable for a hippy crowd or long-time travellers. Also good for college and school kids. It doesn't make sense to travel 1000 km to this place. It could be a day or two stop over if you are passing by.

Pondicherry was at one time French Colony. There are a number of good French bakeries, Cafes, and Resturantes. It bustles with life, feels safe. Sri Aurobindo Ashram is very interesting. Bustling town with plenty of places to sit and chill. Really enjoyed Bread & Chocolate and Baker Street restuants. Had a nice meal at The Promenade Hotel on Beach road. The Beach Road Promenade is a nice to walk during the day and a good vibe at night, Will visit again.

Good place to spend time with family and friends.. more places to visit atleast you may require one or two days to cover it.. but hard to find places to park your vehicle and the roads are very small.. always could see a crowd everywhere with traffic

Excellent place specially the french town and the promenade beach. lot of variety of food and desserts lots option for veg & nonveg restaurants. would highly recommend pondy beach sunride boat drive in morning. for southindian food and thali recommend The Surguru Spot restaurant. for international cusine lot of places like le petit four bakers street for snacks and pastries and lot of coffee places. yes yoy get lot of Auto rickshaws.

nothing specific. its like any other not so developed city and not so clean manukula ganapathy temple is good sri aurobindo ashram is with lot of restrictions ( 11:30 am to 2pm , they closed !) matru mandir was not responsive on e-mail for entry pass. we could not visit restaurants in city center ( around ashram ) are adequate, but on main roads toward cuddalore or tindivanam are not available its scorching sun even in end january ! except some main roads, road condition otherwise is not so good

Some old parts of the city near the beach is dirty with clogged sewage drains and uncleaned walkways. Hotels facing the beach are good but very expensive. People are nice and welcoming. Lots of history to appreciate and spend an interesting time. Rickshaws are easy to use for transport though no one uses the meter. Overall a nice visit. Could have been better if only the administration paid attention to the drainage system which is in a pathetic condition as on Jan 2023. The National highway in certain isolated spots have big craters so if you are driving in the day or night, be very very careful. In the city due to heavy traffic, it is easy to negotiate the craters.

Location is very good. we had the terrace room and therefore excellent view of the Sea from bed self. possibly slightly overpriced but appears that most of the places in Pondicherry would be priced like that. They need to do something about the smell that is in the hotel (not in the rooms but in the lobbies and reception area). further, the breakfast they need to ensure is available till the last guest finishes it.

Spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff readily available to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel is new so all utilities work well. The AC ,hot water ,and WIFI was available 24 hours.
