This award-winning, eco-friendly hotel is on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, 3.7 mi from Iceland’s famous Snæfellsjökull glacier and volcano. Great location (10 minutes away from Snaefellsjoekull National Park, right near the Ocean) and very nice and well decorated room (with an ocean view). The dinner was great and very tasty (but not cheap). The breakfast was very good as well.
Arnarstapi Cottages is located in Arnarstapi, Snæfellsbær. Featuring a restaurant, the property also has a terrace and a bar. Each room is fitted with a patio with views of the mountain. The location was amazing, breakfast delicious, and very nice cottages.
Offering a picturesque location 1.2 mi from Snæfellsjökull National Park, Arnarstapi Guest house offers guest rooms with shared bathroom facilities. We had booked a room in the older building with shared bathroom, but decided to upgrade to one of the new rooms adjacent to the restaurant. Those rooms have fantastic views and are really nice.
Featuring free WiFi and a restaurant, Arnarstapi Hotel offers accommodations in Snæfellsbær. The Cliffs of Arnarstapi and the village port are just a few minutes' walk away. Lovely location, near the hiking trail and sights. It was close to all we wanted to do. The room was amazing. The huge glass window looked out on a grassy field and we could watch the bird activity—better than watching TV! Breakfast was varied and delicious.
Glass House with Private River & 360° Views is located in Arnarstapi. This property has a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. The house was gorgeous- a modern icelandic family home. Lots of space and loved the decorations! Best location in Arnarstapi with a hiking path right behind the house and river. It was plenty of room for our family with 3 sleeping areas. Kitchen was modern and seemed newly renovated. Perfect kitchen for cooking, if you don't want to eat out every night. Great WiFi.
We enjoyed the coastal trail between Hellnar and Anastapi. We parked at Anastapi, then walked most of the way to Hellnar. Then we went to Hellnar, where we stayed at Fosshotel Hellnar overlooking the bay, and walked the trail in the other direction-good for photos, lots of birds. Dinner at FH Hellnar was excellent food presentation, taste and goood service. Skyrcake with berries for dessert was delicious.
Hellnar itself appears to consist of just a small collection of hotels and places to eat, but it's location at one end of an excellent coastal hike to nearby Arnastapi as well as it's proximity to the Snaefellsjokull National Park make it a great base on the Peninsula.
We didn't stay in Hellnar itself, but in Arnarstapi next door. Incredible views. Don't miss the seaside walk between Hellnar and Arnarstapi. Information center for the national park is located in Hellnar.
Hellnar is in the Snaefellness Peninsula, a very scenic region but the wind is cold and harsh so warm clothing is a must. There is a lot to see and do in this national park like caves, glacier, etc. so 1 day is not enough. There is a very good fish and chips food truck right at the Snjofell Guesthouse in Arnarstapi. The nice lady also has burgers and chips.
A magnificent part of Iceland with amazing walking opportunities and 3 good restaurants. Strongly recommend following the path to the harbor's edge to eat fish soup at Fjoruhusid. Hotel Hellnar has an excellent restaurant with spectacular view. Definitely walk the Hellnar Arnastapi track.
The setting where Hellnar is located is spectacular. The pathway between Hellnar and Arnarstapi (2.5 kilometers each way) takes walkers through lava fields and along coastal cliffs, and it should not be missed. When returning to Hellnar from your hike, stop at the tiny but lovely Primus Cafe in Hellnar for coffee or tea served in mismatched china. A wonderful cottage where you can either warm up or sit in the sun.

We arrived to find out the guesthouse had recently been upgraded. We ended up in a gorgeous room with our OWN bathroom (vs shared) with an incredible view out to the ocean. The food at the restaurant was tasty but very expensive - one of the more expensive places we are at in Iceland, and that's saying a lot.
