Not the typical touristy city. However (or maybe because of this) it is a lovely place. Very quiet and relaxing, with an extremely well preserved center. The castle is quite particular. Well worth a visit.
Ferrara has character charm, great architecture and some very good restaurants at various price points. The town is flat and bicycle crazy. You could walk round it but everyone bikes and it’s largely car free. It’s beautiful and we intend to come back highly recommended
I felt like I was going back in time ! Ferrara is such a mysterious revelation to a history buff . It’s like an artichoke , peel away and it gets more delicious ! I loved every moment of this quaint town/city . The gastronomy is amazing . I loved their pumpkin pasta and wine . Everything was delicious . The castel surrounded by water , the pebbled stone streets . I could just go on and on . So romantic and walking back in time . We were fortunate to have a local buddy from Ferrara who took us around as well on his Ferrari ( bicycle ) as Ferrara is called the city of bicycles . :) Thank you for a unforgettable experience Duchess Hotel and all there 🙏
WE liked the historic district, palazzos that you could visit, and the castle which had so many interesting exhibits that we really needed an additional day. Restaurants were, as always in Italy, a high point. Walking around Ferrara was the only transportation that we needed.
Ferrara is a mini version of Florence but without the over crowded, bustle of people and traffic. It is still a working city yet it retains a sense of elegant space. The city is old and beautiful and should not be missed by any traveller. It is a great place to cycle around or to go for just a romantic stroll, shopping, art galleries, historic buildings, the list goes on. Most importantly, the Ferrara people are warm, welcoming and lovely. There is an abundance of great places to eat. I would highly recommend to put Ferrara on your itinerary.
Ferrara has a fascinating history. We had a wonderful tour guide (Laura) arranged by the Annuziata hotel. She brought the city to life for us. The people are lovely, the food great and the shopping wonderful. The Ferrara Jazz Club is a must visit. Great music and great ambience. Gray places to eat include da Noemi, Al Brindisi and la Camusa (a tiny bar with great salads). The Hotel Annuziata became our wonderful home away from home. We had a great time!

Friendly staff, good breakfast and quiet location...plus the best gelateria in town , La Romana, just down the street. Wonderful experience!

Mattia was very friendly, spontaneously recomended us some spots to stroll around and some very good italian restaurant options in ferrara. Accomodations were pretty enough good and clean and the most valuable is the location of the hotel very next to the main centre and not noisy at the same time.
