Travelers who stayed in Kushiro near Kushiro Airport (KUH) have said good things about Woody Hotel & Restaurant YUMEKOUBOU, Super Hotel Kushiro Natural Hot Spring, and La Vista Kushirogawa.
Some of the best hotels in Kushiro near Lake Akan include Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza, Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga and Lake Akan Tsuruga Wings.
We stayed at two places outside of Kushiro (Heart n'Tree Farm Cottage in Tsurui and Poroto Guide Lodge near Hamanaka) which were both awesome, and I highly recommend. We only stayed overnight in Kushiro and I'm glad we didn't spend any more time here. The town had a dreary feeling, with loudspeakers blaring out competing music and announcements. Awful!
If you are there to see the Tancho, do go only in winter. Otherwise, we only spotted a few while driving past some farm fields. If you are there to see the marshland, head straight to Kushiro Marsh Hosooka Observatory for the best view. Kushiro is worthwhile if you're an animal buff/nature and can spend time reading everything in their marsh observatories or crane centres. Otherwise, not much to do there except the morning fish markets.
No big attractions, but a very original japanese city; that makes it interesting to travel. Nice to walk around the port or visit the fish-market. Don't miss a trip to Lake Akan (About 90 min by bus from Kushiro-Station).
I visited for two nights so I cold make a daytrip to Nemuro and Cape Nosappu, the easternmost tip of Japan. It was a full trip to Cape Nosappu by train and bus but worth it in my opinion. This left me with the following morning to see some sights in Kushiro. I expected a gritty industrial coal mining town but was mistaken. I visited the City Museum and was blown away by its quality displays and presentations. I would have liked more time to visit the nearby nature reserves but that will be a future trip. Apparently Kushiro is also known for its cooler summer climate.
We went to kushiro to see the red crowned cranes and saw them in abundance. In addition we saw whooper swans by the hundreds, deer, foxes and at Rausu about 3 hours away, Blakiston's fish eagle, Stellar's fish eagle and the white tailed eagle, as well as a mink. It's rural Japan but the quality of the food was terrific. Just make sure you've got your accommodation in cash because ATM's can be unreliable and some places don't take cards.
Good as an intermediate stop for a journey through Hookaido. Does have a nice Lighthouse, but other than that, the city itself is less flattering. If you are going to Akan, I recommend to better take the direct bus from Kushiro Airport.
One of my best experiences in Japan, the price is so affordable compared with the all the services you get, staff also so kind and helpful. The rooms are so clean and the hotel has a small natural onsen. Also, it included a healthy breakfast that contains a variety of foods and drinks. Location also so close to the station. There are also many amenities you can get at the front desk, pajamas and pillows if you don’t like the one in the room. I highly recommend this place for a stay in Kushiro.
Nice modern comfortable hotel in good location. Plenty of eating options nearby and only 5mins walk to fisherman’s wharf where you can get off/on airport buses and Akan sightseeing buses. 15min walk to Kushiro Washo market. Excellent formal Japanese breakfast provided and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Complimentary venison curry and drinks are available in the evening (did not try). Would definitely stay here again if in Kushiro. Great value.
Were given an early checkin when we stopped by to leave our bags, close to the station, comfortable firm beds, windows open for fresh air, welcome coffee in the lobby, good sized onsen, breakfast was more Japanese than western. For a return visit to Kushiro we cancelled a reservation at another hotel in order to stay here again.
Kushiro
I stayed only one night but hostel owners are really friendly. They offered me a free fish soup. I saw them having dinner with other guests like family members. It is unusual in Japan. And it is not bulk bed! Everyone has a private bed like a private tiny room.
The hotel just a short minute’s walk from the main train station, its biggest selling point. It was easy to check in. The room was somewhat standard. Hot drinks and breakfast were provided if wanted with covid-safe considerations in mind.
A hotel that takes care of everything that you would probably expect and more. the facilities provided is good and they offers even more on loan basis at the lobby, from foot massage units to a wide collection of entertainment devices
The hotel overall is quite good. Room space is ok for japanese standards. Onsen also is quite nice but depending the season, the prices can be quite high actually. i would not pay more than 100€ for a city like Kushiro.
Kushiro
It was convenient and comfortable because the owner sent me some information about the facilities just after I got a reservation.
Great atmosphere, nice common room area to chill at, spacious, nice people, decent shower. Very close to the airport.
Great location and Comfortable room. Breakfast was great with a good variety of Japanese and Western food.
Great location for bars and restaurants. Airport shuttle bus stops at the nearby MOO centre. Nice spa.
Kushiro
Very comfortable room for two. Staff were helpful. Very secure building with multiple key codes.
