The location was great, not too far from the Train Station and the views over the water and the snow covered buildings was beautiful. Good sized room, clean and modern. We stayed at two places outside of Kushiro (Heart n'Tree Farm Cottage in Tsurui and Poroto Guide Lodge near Hamanaka) which were both awesome, and I highly recommend. We only stayed overnight in Kushiro and I'm glad we didn't spend any more time here. The town had a dreary feeling, with loudspeakers blaring out competing music and announcements. Awful!
If you are there to see the Tancho, do go only in winter. Otherwise, we only spotted a few while driving past some farm fields. If you are there to see the marshland, head straight to Kushiro Marsh Hosooka Observatory for the best view. Kushiro is worthwhile if you're an animal buff/nature and can spend time reading everything in their marsh observatories or crane centres. Otherwise, not much to do there except the morning fish markets.
No big attractions, but a very original japanese city; that makes it interesting to travel. Nice to walk around the port or visit the fish-market. Don't miss a trip to Lake Akan (About 90 min by bus from Kushiro-Station).
I visited for two nights so I cold make a daytrip to Nemuro and Cape Nosappu, the easternmost tip of Japan. It was a full trip to Cape Nosappu by train and bus but worth it in my opinion. This left me with the following morning to see some sights in Kushiro. I expected a gritty industrial coal mining town but was mistaken. I visited the City Museum and was blown away by its quality displays and presentations. I would have liked more time to visit the nearby nature reserves but that will be a future trip. Apparently Kushiro is also known for its cooler summer climate.
We went to kushiro to see the red crowned cranes and saw them in abundance. In addition we saw whooper swans by the hundreds, deer, foxes and at Rausu about 3 hours away, Blakiston's fish eagle, Stellar's fish eagle and the white tailed eagle, as well as a mink. It's rural Japan but the quality of the food was terrific. Just make sure you've got your accommodation in cash because ATM's can be unreliable and some places don't take cards.
Good as an intermediate stop for a journey through Hookaido. Does have a nice Lighthouse, but other than that, the city itself is less flattering. If you are going to Akan, I recommend to better take the direct bus from Kushiro Airport.
Four of us stayed at Kushiro Guesthouse cooka doodle doo upon our arrival to Kushiro, Hokkaido. We shared two rooms, one a traditional style tatami/futon room and the other with western style twin beds. Our stay was very comfortable and the guesthouse provided all the necessary amenities. The staff was incredibly helpful and sat with us to help plan some of our visit to the local area. We enjoyed cooking breakfast in the communal kitchen and admiring the eclectic decor. Parking and access were both easy. A great stay. Highly recommended.
Kushiro
The staff can speak enough English to communicate with foreign visitors. They're always available and willing to help! Everything was super clean and exceeded my expectations. It was the fist time I went in an hostel and I'm extremely satisfied!
Big rooms and excellent breakfast. A complimentary drink bar for guests is the icing on the cake. Located right next to the river and Nusamai bridge, a famous landmark is walking distance from the hotel with plenty of eating options nearby.
The hotel just a short minute’s walk from the main train station, its biggest selling point. It was easy to check in. The room was somewhat standard. Hot drinks and breakfast were provided if wanted with covid-safe considerations in mind.
The Onsen on the top floor was great. It comes with a nice view and even an outdoor Onsen. Special thanks to the staff guarding the parking lots on December 25 (afternoon). He was super nice and helpful.
Proper, regular hotel with the amenities you would expect in a proper, regular hotel. Restaurant serves dinner and breakfast; both have a very wide and good choice.
Breakfast was quite good. The area around the hotel was like a step back in time - nomiyayokochos are getting hard to find in Tokyo.
Kushiro
It was convenient and comfortable because the owner sent me some information about the facilities just after I got a reservation.
Very nice location. There is bus stop right in front of the hotel, which is also the bus stop for White Pirika Line 1-day tour.
This is my second time saying here because the location is great! It’s the perfect little spot for a short trip in Kushiro.
Exceptional value for money. A simple but comfortable hotel with a nice onsen. Breakfast was very good.
Great location for bars and restaurants. Airport shuttle bus stops at the nearby MOO centre. Nice spa.
Easy check in, clean and comfortable room, and nice location by fishing port Barbour
