Hotel in Akakura Onsen, Myoko
Located just a 2-minute walk away from Akakura Onsen Ski Resort, Akakura Wakui Hotel offers simple accommodations with natural hot spring baths. Free Wi-Fi is available in the entire property. We enjoyed our stay. Everyone was so helpful and they made up our room each day which was great to come back to. My family got stuck at Kanko ski resort after the last buses left for a ride home and the owner kindly picked them up! Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was a short few minute walk into the Main Street of town. The Onsen was lovely after a day on the slopes- it would be amazing if they did this area up just a little :)

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location for the ski lifts. The owners, Peter and Jenny and the team made us feel very welcome and it felt like a home from home. The breakfast was always amazing! Really nice common areas to relax and unwind in and the hotel onsen was great after a day on the slopes. My partner made good use of the onsite physio - Don is an excellent physio and worked his magic. We stayed over the New Year holidays and the team made us feel very welcome and it was nice to share a drink with their friends and family. Thank you! We would definitely visit again.

Akakura Onsen is a nice small village with plenty of restaurants and hotels. Some were closed due to the small amount of visitors, but as there was so much snow it was nice to have space everywhere. Good variety of foods, and a few bars. Make sure your lodge has transportation when the shuttle buses don't drive around the resorts (like this month, which made traveling around harder unless you have 4-wheel drive AND snow tires).
We loved the comfy beds and shared lounge, bar & dining area, the hot tub after being out in the snow all day and the freshly prepared breakfast and dinner. Fabulous vegan and vegetarian options and western friendly. Wonderful owners who made us feel so welcome from the start. Felt like a home stay and we could’ve stayed for longer! Great local recommendations and activities close by. Thank you Chereyne & Brett - the super hosts! :)
On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6. The mountain infrastructure is very old and tired which accounts for the low cost of lift tickets. The mountain lacks steepness. Besides the many small restaurants it lacks a village atmosphere. The mountain geography doesn't support advanced skiers. It is not clearly sign posted for runs which also makes it difficult. We found Japan much more expensive than what it was 5-6 years ago and would probably go back to Canada for more value.
Gorgeous quaint Japanese village with authentic restaurants, amazing snow and ski resorts very close by. Very friendly locals, who go out of their way to help you, even with language barriers. Fantastic place to visit for snow sports, lift tickets are incredibly cheap compared to Australia - around $40-50 per day depending on discounts through accommodation, etc. Great place to visit!
A lovely ski area. A good variety of ski areas to choose from and also very quiet even on weekends. There is an adequate amount of restaurants in the town but it gets very busy during peak dinner times.
Myoko is a small ski town near Nagano. Great options for snowboarding in the various local resorts. The town itself lacks the Japanese charm experienced in nearby places such as Nozawa Onsen. Perfect for those who want/need a more westernised experience.
We stayed 3 nights at this lovely hotel 1. Host follows safety measure for Covid-19, so we felt secured during our stays. 2. Very Spacious and clean room 3. Private indoor & outdoor onsen 4. Well equipped drying room for ski/snowboard 5. Excellent breakfast, very delicious and large volume 6. The host very kind and helpful even to brush off snow from our car during our stay 7. Location near to ski resort 5 min walk to Akakura onsen ski resort chair lift 15 min drive to Suginohara Ski Resort (host provide pick up)

The owners are very kind and surprisingly accommodating for Japanese standards. We were traveling with a dog so their flexibility was a huge plus. The host is also the director of the Myoko Kogen Visitor Center and a certified mountain and trekking guide! The couple speaks very good English and is knowledgeable about the area in all seasons. We'll be back for some hiking in the summer for sure. Breakfast was lovely too, from the food presentation and their attentive service to the food variety.
Myoko
Kofukan had an extremely relaxing atmosphere as soon as you step through the entrance, the room was lovely and had a great view of the mountain. The staff are kind and helpful. The Onsen was beautiful and relaxing - it was my first Onsen experience which I was pleasantly surprised with. The location was good being so close to Myokokogen Station. I tried both the Japanese and Western style breakfast - both were great!

Loved my stay at konayuki. Location was perfect, right at the base of akakura kanko ski resort. Owners were super nice, and went out of their way to make my stay convenient. Room was clean and warm and bed was super comfortable. Oh, and the breakfast was really good! Strongly recommend staying here if you are thinking of skiing in myoko. One of the best pensions I’ve stayed at.
Myoko
So much snow! Felt like we were at the top of the mountain in this older style hotel. Included meals were huge and a curious, but good, mix of traditional Japanese and western food. Our room and the main sitting area were lovely spaces and an unexpected bonus was the floodlight trees and snowfall after dinner. The owner very kindly drove us down to Akakura Onsen when we left.
Excellent hotel in Akakura - they contacted me upon arrival offering to collect us from the train station which was absolutely lovely. The stay was comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with everything we needed. They also organised for our bags to be sent to the airport for us so that we did not have to travel through Tokyo with our snow gear.

Kimmy & Miyu are the best! Japowhouse is lovely, modern and clean. The bar area is very welcoming and cozy. Kimmy loves to talk snow and skiing and is stoked for you to have fun in Myoko. Both he and Miyu are ready to answer any questions you have about where to ski, onsen or eat. All their recommendations were were on point.
Myoko
Delicious food, great location, extremely kind and accomodating hosts, really nice rooms and comfortable beds. It was so great having an onsen each night after a long day skiing. Can't recommend enough! We had such a great stay at Hunter Lodge and will come back if we visit Myoko again.
