Refre Hotel in Myoko features ski-to-door access and a shared lounge. With free WiFi, this hotel offers ski storage space and free shuttle service upon prior request. The people. It is called a “hotel”, which I suppose it is with 1 large floor of very clean, well kept and accommodating rooms with comfortable western-style beds and Japanese Futon. But the atmosphere is very different than your standard hotel run by robot-like staff. This place is much more welcoming and heartwarming by the way they instantly make you feel like a well-cared-for member of the family. You won’t regret choosing this hotel where you can’t help feeling like you wished you could stay longer. Oh, I forgot to mention the top-notch Onsen baths separated into men’s and women’s baths that even accommodate reservations so a family can have a private Onsen to themselves and they also don’t frown on guests with tattoos like most Japanese do. Also very nutritious meals that give you the energy to enjoy all the outdoor activities!

Akakura Onsen is a nice small village with plenty of restaurants and hotels. Some were closed due to the small amount of visitors, but as there was so much snow it was nice to have space everywhere. Good variety of foods, and a few bars. Make sure your lodge has transportation when the shuttle buses don't drive around the resorts (like this month, which made traveling around harder unless you have 4-wheel drive AND snow tires).
We loved the comfy beds and shared lounge, bar & dining area, the hot tub after being out in the snow all day and the freshly prepared breakfast and dinner. Fabulous vegan and vegetarian options and western friendly. Wonderful owners who made us feel so welcome from the start. Felt like a home stay and we could’ve stayed for longer! Great local recommendations and activities close by. Thank you Chereyne & Brett - the super hosts! :)
On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6. The mountain infrastructure is very old and tired which accounts for the low cost of lift tickets. The mountain lacks steepness. Besides the many small restaurants it lacks a village atmosphere. The mountain geography doesn't support advanced skiers. It is not clearly sign posted for runs which also makes it difficult. We found Japan much more expensive than what it was 5-6 years ago and would probably go back to Canada for more value.
Gorgeous quaint Japanese village with authentic restaurants, amazing snow and ski resorts very close by. Very friendly locals, who go out of their way to help you, even with language barriers. Fantastic place to visit for snow sports, lift tickets are incredibly cheap compared to Australia - around $40-50 per day depending on discounts through accommodation, etc. Great place to visit!
A lovely ski area. A good variety of ski areas to choose from and also very quiet even on weekends. There is an adequate amount of restaurants in the town but it gets very busy during peak dinner times.
Myoko is a small ski town near Nagano. Great options for snowboarding in the various local resorts. The town itself lacks the Japanese charm experienced in nearby places such as Nozawa Onsen. Perfect for those who want/need a more westernised experience.
Myoko
The location is great! There is a ski resort very close to the lodge. The lodge is also newly renovated so it's modern and very well kept. The owner Chris runs the hotel, he is very kind and accommodating. Having him there definitely made our stay much more memorable. It felt like a home away from home. Whenever we had an issue, Chris went out of his way to help us out and make our stay comfortable. Chris also prepares the meals and they were delicious! I highly recommend having dinner in the hotel as well.

We loved our stay at Myoko Ski Lodge! Tanya and Geoff are outstanding hosts, taking you skiing and giving you lots of amazing tips that will make your stay unique. The lodge is clean, the breakfast was really appreciated and the onsens super relaxing. We enjoyed the common room where you can work, read, eat and meet nice people! It is also easy to walk to the ski slopes plus Geoff organizes daily trips if you want to ski in different resorts and enjoy other guest's company
Seiko san and Hide san was very helpful with helping us plan our trip in Myoko, from sorting out our lift passes to finding where to find good snow. They served good simple breakfast which I love (coffee, toast, egg, yogurt) and we had delicious hot pot for dinner, both at very reasonable price. Very pretty décor - cozy living space with large screen tv and fireplace and a climbing wall! Good place to stay-in with group of friends.
Myoko
Booking.com's system created a problem with the number of people and the size of our room. The Lotte Arai staff were amazing at fixing the problem and helping us to our new room. We had a great stay. We have stayed at this hotel many times - both on the Arai side and the Lodge side. We have eaten at all the restaurants (which are very good).
Myoko
Kimmy & Miyu are the best! Japowhouse is lovely, modern and clean. The bar area is very welcoming and cozy. Kimmy loves to talk snow and skiing and is stoked for you to have fun in Myoko. Both he and Miyu are ready to answer any questions you have about where to ski, onsen or eat. All their recommendations were were on point.

We lived 5 days, everyday breakfast is different and so delicious. Owner couple is really nice and kind; whole hotel is clean and feel warm just like home; bed is comfortable; and in room also provided extension cord and more than usual hanger, which is really thoughtful. I am looking forward to visit again soon.
Great location, comfortable room, spacious onsen. Loved the hotel and I hope I get a chance to go back. Also, I recommend you reach out to the hotel. The husband and wife team can answer any questions about mountains or work towards accommodating any requests.
