The Old Town is pretty, full of interesting things to see.
The Old Town is pretty, full of interesting things to see. All is walking distance, no need for car or taxi, if you stay in the Old Town.
Food is good but more or less the same in all restaurants. It is not cheap to go out and you should better be an eater. Portions are big!
Leave at home your high heels, the old streets are not made for them. Do not expect fancy fashion opportunities, at least not easy to spot (didn't see any...).
I felt safe in all areas, nevertheless you have to pay attention to your surroundings - like elsewhere.
People are friendly and even when English isn't good, they try to help.

Riga is a must.
Riga is a must. I had no idea what to expect as it was an impulse break away. So much history and things to do. I would recommend the Corner House which doesn't seem to be well advertised. We also took a train to Jumala on the coast which was gorgeous and only 4 euros return per person and just an hour away. Everywhere we ate was lovely

There's very few reasons not to visit Riga.
There's very few reasons not to visit Riga. It has almost all the advantages of visiting any other western European capital with very few disadvantages.
If I had to be exceptionally nit-picky, I could maybe say that some of the people were a little on the cold side and that you might occasionally run into some less than stellar food. But the positives quickly overshadow any of the negatives and you learn to forgive any shortcomings you might find.
Apart from the old town I was particularly impressed with the city parks. The flower arrangements and river running through several of them was truly delightful.
It's also a very walkable place with various options for getting around otherwise.
Really quite an extraordinary place.

Downtown Riga is a place where history and modern life...
Downtown Riga is a place where history and modern life coexist, where every corner holds a story, and where the rhythm of the city invites you to explore its many layers. Whether it’s the architecture, the culture, or the people, something about Riga captures the heart of every visitor who walks its streets. Beautiful cobblestone streets of downtown Riga, the iconic spires of St. Peter’s Church, stroll along the Daugava River, where the shimmering water reflects the vibrant colors of the surrounding architecture.

It was my first trip to Riga.
It was my first trip to Riga. I was taken by the understated beauty of the city. I liked the architecture, the old wooden houses and many art nouveau buildings. The city is very clean, people are friendly. There is a very nice, long, sandy beach near Riga. You can easily get there by train, and although planning a beach holiday in the North may not seem a sensible idea, after my experience I would say it is. The sun was shining, the temperature was just OK, you could dip in the sea and enjoy the beach.

A very vibrant town with a lot of interesting things to see.
A very vibrant town with a lot of interesting things to see. There is a nice restaurant at the end of Alberta street when you can have a selection of good dishes while contemplating the beauty of the street.
The location is excellent, very close to the old town but not right within, so going to the city center and the parks is also just a 5 minute walk. Bus and train station were also basically around the corner.
Ramune is an excellent host, very communicative and eager to help. Small details in the rooms, like a chocolate bar hanging at the door before checkout, show that she really cares. Amenities also just as described (like a big and good hair dryer instead of the cheap, generic ones at a regular hotel).
The location is perfect, very close to the old town and also close (max 10 minutes) to the train station (it helps if you take trips around Riga, which we did). Room is big, modern and clean, has great noise insulation, we did not hear anything from the outside, though there's cars and trams that ran in front of the hotel, door is also insulated as you don't hear people talking/passing by on the corridor. Staff is exceptional. Great hotel, would definitely choose it again.
We booked the "Deluxe Double or Twin Room" option in June 2024. Not far away from the centre and Old Town of Riga, just 1.3km. There are paid parking places just in front of the hotel, that do not pay much if you stay only a few hours. Rich breakfast where you find all you need.
Centrally located hotel in the old town of Riga. All the main attractions are within walking distance. Two minutes from the bus stop to the airport. Spacious and well equipped rooms. Relatively good breakfast. Perfect for a short stay.
The location of this hotel is wonderful ,walking distance from a lot of trams and buses (also to/from airport) and right at the heart of Riga old town, with even some restaurants and bars just downstairs.
