Liu Men Melaka - by Preference 5 stars

Hotel in Melaka

Set within 600 metres of Straits Chinese Jewelry Museum Malacca and 1.3 km of The Stadthuys, Liu Men Melaka - by Preference offers rooms in Melaka. A truly beautiful hotel with intricate Peranakan decorations. Peranakan accents everywhere in the property. Extremely clean and new looking rooms and exceptional staff who does their best to make your stay in melaka a pleasant one. Breakfast was a choice of local dish together with a continental breakfast. For both days, the breakfast which I had - Nyonya laksa and roti canai were nothing short of amazing. Hotel room is fully stocked with complimentary snacks and non alcoholic drinks and bathroom amenities are all great - relaxing smelling bath gels that make you feel like you are in a Bali resort. Jonker street night market are only a stone throw away - 1 to 2mins walk to reach the entrance of it which is extremely convenient as after shopping at the night market, you can just walk back to the hotel with minimal efforts. During departure, one of the staff tied a red friendship band on my wrist and told me that it is there tradition in the hotel as they wished to have us again the next time we travel to Melaka. I personally felt very touched as I can sense sincerity in it and this is truly the epitome of Asian hospitality. Overall, all 8 of us had an exceptionally great stay in Liu men Melaka and will definitely return the next time we visit.

FAQs about hotels in Melaka

History and Culture in Equal Measure

Historic Melaka (or Malacca) is the capital of the Malaysian state of the same name, home to one of the country’s first sultanates. The replica of the sultan’s palace is one of the city’s top attractions.

The end of the sultanate came with the Portuguese conquest of Melaka in the 16th century. Reminders of this period include part of A Famosa fort, and there is also a fort built by the next settlers – the Dutch. Several Dutch churches also remain, including Christ Church with its pinkish façade.

Nowadays, Melaka is a melting pot of various cultures, and Chinese temples – such as wonderful Cheng Hoon Teng – sit happily alongside Hindu temples and mosques. The most spectacularly located of the latter is Masjid Selat (or Malacca Straits Mosque), on stilts above waters lapping an offshore island.

Many Melaka hotels on Booking.com are near the promenade lining the narrow city beach, and others are near more secluded beaches in the suburbs. The Melaka River splits the city into 2, and the further inland you travel along it, the more traditional the buildings become.

Just before the river’s first bend is Jonker Street, the heart of Chinatown and popular for its night markets, while a good few miles to the north is Melaka Airport in the Batu Berendam district.
