Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all. I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket. We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip. Good shops and a huge market, though all very expensive. Their own hand-made pareos and other garments are beautiful. There is a lovely garden (Paofae) along the sea front which starts just beyond the marina. From here we watched the sunset which was stunning. There are beaches around the island, both white and black sand, but not in Papeete itself. There are buses but we didn't use them as we had the private tour.Guest review byJanet - 8.0

It was such a beautiful place. The open markets were exceptional in that they offered fresh produce and a variety of local arts and crafts. The artisans were truly gifted using unique techniques to highlight everyday items grown/foraged in the surrounding environment. I definitely plan to go back and soak up the island atmosphere!! And a shout out to a little establishment we ate at: Jojo's Pizza was the BOMB! You can use Papeete as a base for exploring other parts of French Polynesia. We took the short ferry ride to Moorea and stayed a few days - definitely a worthwhile trip. We also took a half-day trip around Tahiti that took in the highlights of the natural beauty of the island as well as some historical sites.Guest review byJ&G1983Australia

It was clean and comfortable enough - it is very much a typical hotel so don’t expect much but I good little stop over when flying in late at night considering everything is experience in Papeete. Staff were kind and there is a very simple bread breakfast which is helpful on the run!! There are several restaurants within 10-15 minute walk, though the hotel is located on the side of the hill, so you may need to take a taxi if you are physically limited. The toilet and shower rooms were adjacent. It was refreshing to be able to take a dip in the small pool nearby. There were food shops in the area and the address was easy to reach from the centre or the airport ( take bus number 2 which runs from 5am to 5pm. The roof top bar and restaurant are the best and cool spots for both tourists and locals. If you are looking for hippest places to hangout, this is it. Although they are not party of the hotel.
