Wonderful hotel. Very friendly front desk staff who gave a warm welcome. Dream room with lots of space, lovely bathtub and patio area overlooking olive groves. And separate sleeping area and lounge. Really wonderful getaway that was super peaceful and restorative, at the foot of the mountain of Monsaraz. Wanted to stay longer it was so wonderful. Beautiful gardens and land surrounding it with 2500 year old olive trees!

Stunning location with exceptional views. The space is sympathetically designed to keep its surroundings within nature as untouched as possible. The experiences offered were fantastic (ceramic workshop and olive oil tasting) and the Lovescape dinner was just so peaceful. Thank you for a beautiful stay!

Location was great. We were there during a heatwave and the place was very well suited to handle it thanks to the swimming pool and the powerful AC.

The staff and owner were so friendly and accommodating! We loved having chickens and Pancetta the pig to visit daily. And also having the run of the breakfast room for games with our friends! We will be back!

The place was lovely, but the people were even lovelier. They pay attention to the details and keep everything perfect. Out of their kindness they even gave us a ride to the beach and back. I would recommend it to anyone.

Joana and Anabela were wonderful, the breakfast was lovely and varied and had a great homemade touch, and the room was excellent. We really loved our stay and definitely want to come back. It was cold so sadly we didn't get to enjoy the pool but the outside area (pool, garden, plenty of cozy places to sit and read) was great to walk around!

The restaurants we ate at were very good

The restaurants we ate at were very good We didn't like the walk up and down from the accommodation to the main eating and shopping area. It is quite difficult walking around Monsaraz because of the cobble stones and the steep hills.

The medieval village of Monsaraz is a magical portal to life in another age. Stories of Knights Templars and kings are part of it's rich history, but it's the view of the Alentejo plains and the Alqueva dam from it's walls that are breathtaking. Don't miss visiting The Museu da Luz, which pays homage to the drowned village of Luz to make way for the Alqueva dam. It is very touching.

Visiting Monsaraz is a truly memorable experience.

Visiting Monsaraz is a truly memorable experience. The village impresses immediately with the excellent preservation of its heritage and the spotless cleanliness of all its whitewashed streets and alleyways. Its historical value is unquestionable, with a special highlight being the museum dedicated to the Jewish community and the Inquisition, which offers a fascinating and enriching journey back in time. Beyond all the cultural richness, the local gastronomy is another major highlight. I would particularly mention the Xarez restaurant, where we were impeccably served and enjoyed an absolutely breathtaking view over the Alentejo landscape. A fascinating village that always makes you want to return!

It took longer to retrieve our rental car from Lisbon than we expected, and we stopped in Evora on our way to Monsaraz. We arrived late and left in the morning, leaving little time to explore. A full day is probably enough, which we intended to have but misjudged the time navigating the transportation. Driving through town was an adventure with the very narrow and steep streets. The restaurant was very traditional, and felt authentic. We would recommend a stop in this charming old town.

Monsaraz, more specifically the castle, is certainly a must...

Monsaraz, more specifically the castle, is certainly a must for anyone visiting Alentejo. The view is absolutely breathtaking, overseeing the Alqueva dam and the beautiful Alentejo. It's also quite rich in history, weaved into its quaint rocky streets and schist houses. Like its "big cousin" Marvão, the sunsets are particularly stunning. I know they aren't related, but they do feel similar ok? However, the citadel is not ideal for people with lower mobility or not ready to spend too much in the many tourist-focused restaurants. A couple hours should be enough for a tour, since it's not very big. The region itself do deserve some more time. Feel free to take a dip in Alqueva, do a hike in the countryside dotted by millennia old megalithic monuments or simply star gaze.

Have lunch at Xarez. The village is just beautiful. We visit to the Observatory was good too. The walk we attempted around the lake was slightly difficult as the paths were blocked presumably because of conservation issues.

An ideal location if you just want to switch off from all the troubles in the world. Almost total silence except for the noises of nature. Marcia is a lovely friendly lady and nothing seems to be too much trouble. She makes sure your stay is as perfect as can be. The owner is a lovely friendly lady and it was our pleasure to stay for a few nights. We will definitely return. An ideal location with a wonderful view of Monsaraz Castle. 10/10

Convento de Orada is an old eighteenth century convent, converted in a hotel. It has excellent rooms, very comfortable and quiet. It is an impressive building in the middle of the fields some kilometers from the city of Monsaraz. An excellent breakfast is served with many options and delicious treats.
