The charming Slovenian capital of Ljubljana is the only large city in the country. Dominated by Castle Hill with the medieval Ljubljana Castle on top, the city is a picturesque mix of Balkan architectural styles, romantic bridges and scenic views.
Due to two major earthquakes in 1511 and 1895 that destroyed many buildings, the Old Town features a range of styles: from Roman to Medieval Baroque and Viennese Secession. This trend exists throughout the city with many Gothic-style buildings featuring elements from different periods added later on.
Strolling along Ljubljanica River, you'll see the Triple Bridge, connecting two parts of the center and beautifully lit in the evenings. Make a stop at Prešelen Square, Ljubljana’s most popular meeting point with the Franciscan Church of Annunciation and one of the main shopping streets, Čop Street.
With over 10,000 cultural events a year and still preserving the charm of a smaller town, Ljubljana is a city where you can truly relax: on a bench in Tivoli Park, in one of the bars in the Town Square, or on a funicular to the top of Castle Hill.
Whether you’re looking for cheap or luxury hotels, near the center of the city or Brnik Airport, Booking.com has plenty of properties for your vacation in Ljubljana!

Very calm city, they wake up late go to bed early, they have there own pace and that is so cool, people are just soooo nice there so helpful not just one person but everyone i met there was so polite and nice. Go there not for the monuments which they celebrate as a city, but go there for the lovely people, many small cafes just make the morning delightful. Go there if you want peace, avoid if you the the hustle bustle of the city and late night activities because the sleep early. But nonetheless amazing place

Center of the city and especially Tromostovje is very attractive. Streets are clean, the buildings are neat and tidy and do not have graffiti (which is very important). Compliments to the city authorities.
The restaurants on Tromostovje are full of guests, which gives a special atmosphere and charm to the night life of the city.
All in all, a very positive impression of Ljubljana! :-))

Ljubljana is a beautiful, safe and clean city full of great food and friendly people. Most locals speak perfect English. If you go to Slovenia, set two days aside for Ljubljana as any more than that you may run out of things to do but as a base camp to explore the rest of the country it's perfect. The train/bus station is walking distance from the centre and it is very easy to get a bus or train anywhere. For example Lake Bled is an hour on the bus and 12Euros each for a return and they run from 6am - 11pm hourly. The entire centre is pedestrianised and there is great food and atmosphere in any restaurant you choose. The only tourist trap as such is the castle. You can walk up either side of the hill via easy to find stairs rather than the funicular if you are fit and healthy. Exploring most of the castle is free. You only need to purchase tickets if you want to see the exhibits indoors. My last thought on Slovenia is that to get the most out of this country you do need a moderate to high level of fitness for most of the tourist attractions.
