If you drive straight through Selcuk on the main road you will miss its interesting historic quarters. When I first visited Ephesus back in 2012 I was recommended to stay in Sirince, a small and pretty village up in the mountains via a hair-raising climb, but now very over-commercialised and crowded and not convenient for Ephesus. Selcuk has some really interesting historic parts and some lovely boutique hotels, and is so close to the historic site at Ephesus that it is better to stay there.
Great, friendly people. Beautiful, historic town that is clean and well maintained. Great food! Helpful people! No fear of theft or harassment. The Ephesus ruins were fantastic! I highly recommend Selcuk.
There is a lot to see here. Burial site of St John, Mother Mary's retirement house, Byzantine aqueducts just off St John, the castle, the site of the temple of Artemis (now mostly gone but still 7th old wonder of the world), and of course Ephesus which was massive.
It is interesting visiting an ancient place like Ephesus which was in its heyday before and around the time of Christ. We did not visit the remains of the Temple of Artemis but walked the ancient city of Ephesus and visited the museum and climbed the castle and Basilica of St John. You could get a good idea of life in those early times. We drove to the beach and had a look around but clearly the seascape part has changed a lot over 2000 years. We walked the town and saw some excellent crafts especially tiles and also enjoyed local food there. On Saturday morning there was a huge village produce market which was good to see - wished we had more time to see it all.
Ephesus is a must see for everybody interested in Classical histry and architecture. Beautiful site, an individual guide can be helpful to see and explain multiple interesting details that people usually don't notice. Plan about 2-3 hours to enjoy it without rushing. Selcuk is also a good place to see and buy Turkish carpets if you are interested.
Well worth the visit. Ephesus and the House of Virgin Mary are there. People are friendly, area is safe, food is good, prices are reasonable and sea is near. You can have a holiday full of cultural trips and lazy days on the beach. This area of Turkey has plenty to offer. It is a must.
Wonderful little boutique hotel in the tiny charming town of Selcuk. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and helped me book tours for Pamukkale and Ephesus for reasonable prices, even though it was off-season. The rooms themselves are small but very nicely decorated, and I really loved the balcony that overlooks the street. The hotel is situated right on one of the main streets in town and the town itself is very charming. Breakfast was great as well. Highly recommend!
The Hotel Mary's House brings a peaceful environment. Breakfast was very good and better than expected. Location is excellent! The owner and his family were very charming and family oriented. Brurac not was only the owner, but he was more than knowledgeable about the history and the current situations in the present day. We enjoyed how he explained the history and make you feel a part of it.
Savas, Mehmet and all the wonderful team made our stay amazing. This hotel is family owned, a little gem in Selçuk. They really went out of their way to ensure we were happy in our stay. Breakfast was delicious, rooms were clean and comfortable!
Fantastic location, right beside st john's basicila and just across the main street of food and shops, mini market just behind it as well Fariq and his team were v accomodating and humorous Bfast one of the best in our turkey hotels
Lovely couple own and run the hotel, they even took our dog for a walk when they took their own out! Very good breakfast. The building is old, quirky and interesting, in a level area of Selcuk and close to the centre.
Beautiful location and tasteful decor, we could stay here for weeks! It is on top of the hill so it requires a small hike to get to the hotel from the village center (not easily accessible for elderly).
Utterly brilliant hotel. Wonderful welcome. Thoughtful design, beautiful restoration, impressive attention to detail. Best place we stayed in 19 days in Turkey - wish we had been there for longer !
Conveniently located hotel to numerous attractions in the area. Easy to reach with plenty of parking, comfy rooms. We were more than satisfied, especially with very helpful and friendly owners.
Selçuk
The hotel has a good standard, in a really quite and silent part of Selcuk. Parking is available in the public street for free. Breakfast is very good.
We had a fantastic stay. The staff were lovely and the facilities were great. The breakfast was fabulous, possibly the best of our stay in Turkey.
Close to everything. Short stroll for eating out or sightseeing. Short walk to train station and busses just across the park from hotel.
All, an amazing wonderful enchanted place, best place I have stayed in Turkey and I have stay in tons of them. Can’t wait to go back!!!
Hotel is located in the heart of Selcuk. Street parking is available, though limited.
Selçuk
It is a lovely decorated hotel with a beautiful outside where we had breakfast which was nice. The location is great, you can easily walk to all the major things (restaurants, museums, basilica, mosque, etc.) in Selcuk. There is parking in front of the hotel and we didn't have any problem with it during our stay. The room was very clean and towels changed daily making every time new decoration out of it, which was nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was cozy to rest after a long day of walking. The staff is nice and helpful. The owner helped us with recommendations for restaurants.

Like being in someone's home. Very helpful owner as to visiting Ephesus and other places in the area. Beautiful garden/grounds, excellent breakfast, strong hot showers and great Wi-Fi. Plenty of parking on street in front. Good location - close to everything but on a quiet street. Room a little small but functional.
The staff are from same village as the owner. They are like family and so friendly , caring and awesome hospitality
