The glass museum is well done....informational, entertaining and aesthetically pleasing. Our group [Aged 7 to 72] got physically tired before we tired of the place. Only a few blocks away, Market St has MANY choices for dining.
The town was cute and clean. It had many shops and eating places. The Corning museum of glass was really neat. The Rockwell museum was not affiliated with Norman Rockwell, but was very interesting.
We were never in Corning before. The town is quaint, shops are lovely and the proprietors of these shops were friendly. The Clock Tower square was a great place to sit and eat lunch since the weather for us was perfect. We drove and parked on East Market Street and walked around everywhere else in town. The Rockwell Museum, for sure was a hit as was the Corning Museum of Glass. We did not, but eating at the restaurants, nice local taverns, scenic walks.
Although the area was quaint, the town was a bit quiet and boring. We stayed Saturday to Sunday due to a late-night event in a nearby town and planned on walking the nice little downtown the next day before leaving. I know it was Sunday, but the vast majoirity of the "downtown" shops were closed - even restaurants and ice cream shops. It seemed odd, as we are not used to that in modern times. For a town that seemed to be struggling financially, you would think they would welcome the opportunity to do business on a Sunday.
The museums were short trips but they were informative and beautiful. The town is very quaint and lovely to walk around and shop. There are some unique shops. Very pet friendly and family oriented. The town is very close to Watkins Glen which is a half hour drive to get to the wine trail. Very relaxing and comfortable.
The glass museum and the Rockwell museum were great. It was fun visiting the different shops on Market street. The Market Street Brewing Company has good food. Old World Cafe has excellent sandwiches and ice cream. The BBQ pit had good food and Dippadee Do Dahs has good ice cream. We went Fourth of July weekend and Market Street was closed off so there were lots of bands playing in the street. We stayed at the Radisson hotel which is right on Market Street and close walking distance to everything. The Radisson was very nice and they have a band every Thursday and Friday night. We also visited Hammondsport and went to the Brewery of Broken Dreams and The Switzerland restaurant for a clam bake on Keuka Lake. Our last day we went to the Mark Twain golf course which is a nice course to play. My husband and I really enjoyed our little weekend getaway.
Corning
The location is great for the Corning Museum of glass. Robert is an excellent host and provided a lot of information about the local area. It is close to market street with all the shops, bars and restaurants. It is very close to the corning museum of glass. The space is small and cozy, warm and has everything you would need if you wanted to cook. It is fine for a couple but any more would be a stretch. The linens and towels are great. We would definitely stay again if we were in Corning.
Comfortable, quiet room and excellent shower. Keurig coffee machine made good coffee. The bed was comfortable. Very attractive lobby and friendly staff. Liked the complimentary morning coffee in the lobby and microwave there for my hot milk! The hotel was easy walking distance to The Corning Glass Museum and Rockwell Museum, our main reason for visiting Corning.
Corning
The gaffer inn was wonderful, very clean and super comfortable. The inn is located on market st and you could not find a better location. The staff were amazing and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. I can’t give this hotel enough stars. We will be back. Thank you gaffer inn for the wonderful experience.
The room was super clean and spacious. The huge bed was so comfortable, we had a great rest after a long day of travel. Some inconsiderate, loud people blasted music from a car in a lot behind the hotel property for about 15 minutes around 11:30pm but the rest of the time was very quiet.
As soon as we walked in, the hotel staff greeted us with a smile. Asked us what brought us to NY. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was good. Christian was the night clerk he was whom we had most interaction with very pleasant.
