Room was clean and the bed comfy. Breakfast was pretty standard fair. It was quite expensive for the standard of the hotel but it is in the center of town close to all bars and restaurants.

Hill City is one of the best places to visit in the Hills.
Hill City is one of the best places to visit in the Hills. There is truly something for everyone from a leisurely ride on the 1880 train, having your picture taken with Smokey the Bear to strolling the streets of downtown and indulging in a fantastic dinner at The Alpine Inn, no one in your group will leave disappointed with their visit.

I love the country side vibes, it’s peaceful and not chaotic. I love the steak house on Main Street it was by far the best on our stay. There were many activities around the area, wish we stayed a bit longer. Definitely will come back next time!

Hill City is perfect for couples or families wanting to visit the Black Hills area of South Dakota. It had great restaurants very near our hotel, like the Chute Rooster. There was a winery and a brewery nearby. The town was walkable and had great shopping. It was very close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse monument area. Also Custer National Park and Windcave National Park. It had a lot going on but didn't seem too busy. We will definitely come back and stay here if we come to this area again.

We've been to Hill City many times over the years.
We've been to Hill City many times over the years. History, the train, nearness to Mount Rushmore, and surrounding scenery are the biggest draws of Hill City. Quality of food was lacking. Steak was questionable as to what it really was at the Alpine Inn and the Pizza at the big restaurant on the corner was horrible. Other than that, Hill City is a neat old historical town, but it ain't like it was just a few years ago.

We stayed on the second floor and there is no elevator but that was not an issue for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and quality coffee :) It was very close to Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer Park (which has a great wildlife loop - don't miss it!) Being so close allowed us to visit the places more than once in a day which is a nice option. The entry fees to these places all allowed you to come and go for a couple days. All in all this was a very convenient place to stay at a very reasonable price.
These are very well build and designed cabins in the woods just outside of Hill City. Very peaceful place to stay that feels rustic and in nature in the middle of very busy and tourist Black Hills. We really love the Black Hills area and this helps us enjoy being there. Is relatively close to Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Deadwood, Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake, ATV rentals, 1880 Train, riding some of the fantastic gravel Michelson bike trail, etc, which we did all of and more. A very good value if you have six or so people with you.
The location is the "top positive" for Trails End. Hill City is a very active tourist town. However, at these cabins a person has the quiet of being away from the bustle and close to a lot of sites.
