#1 of 1 hotels in Litchfield
I came to Litchfield for a weekend of history-hunting and was not disappointed. The Historical Society was great, and simply exploring the town and seeing all the old beautiful homes, churches, the library, and the cemetery was worthwhile. The town is easy to navigate, the residents are friendly, and the restaurants I tried had great food.
It's a beautiful town, nestled in the hills surrounded by trees with wonderful New Enland style houses. There is also a stunning church. We ate at the local grill on Monday night as the hotel restaurant was closed. Despite arriving very late they managed to rustle up some really nice food, they couldn't have been more helpful. The next night we ate at the restaurant in the hotel where the food was again very good. There was also live music which was excellent, I love this area! There are lakes, state parks cute little towns all of which seem to have really good places to eat. There isn't a shortage of things to do either. Try the wine trail or canoeing on one of the many lakes, visiting the little towns around the area like Kent and shopping in lots of individual shops. We spent one morning walking around the town looking at the amazing houses!
Some New England towns retain their unique character from the early days of settlement, others have devolved into the endless strip mall model of the 1980's. Litchfield has mostly dodged the bullet. Driving into town, heading for the Inn, the traffic was light, the country was mostly pastoral and my blood pressure fell. My only honest way to rate the experience would be very positive.
“The staff was friendly and helpful, and the building is beautiful and in a perfect location if you plan on exploring downtown Litchfield.”
“Room was nice and the inn is lovely.”
“The Lichfield Inn offers good and comfortable accommodations, very clean, and very nice breakfast service. Omelettes, bagels, yogurts, pastries, a wide range to suit various needs.”
“pleasantly surprised by beauty of the Inn”
“Has a very "county inn" feel in the main areas. We had two queen beds, which were comfortable. It looked exactly like to picture on the website. The sink was huge! The room was in the newer wing. There were several sitting rooms throughout the wing.”
