Hadfield museum, seafood, MO’s always great food and view, pig n cake yummy food, great service. Close to Corvallis, to avoid traffic after the game, beaches steps away. Great morning views, waves sea and sand. Public park just down on the corner with safe beach access for the whole family.

I grew up 60 miles away in the little town of Florence, Oregon. Florence has become too touristy, glitzy, and not very welcoming. I prefer Newport when I travel out from Georgia each year. The food is good, new restaurants opening each time I come to town, wonderful little new shops (I'm talking about you Kindred Hearts and Femme Fatale), lovely and interesting "coasties" to talk with. Good microbrewerys, educational entertainment (the aquarium, best Mo's on the coast (Otter Rock), etc.

Newport is a wonderful city to visit.
Newport is a wonderful city to visit. There are first class restaurants and the views of/access to the ocean cannot be beat. Remember that Oregonians call this the "coast" and not the "beach"--weather can come in that can be very wet and cold. The Bayfront and Nye Beach areas are charming.

It is an active commercial fishery with authentic maritime atmosphere. The restaurants were very good, especially with fresh fish. The people are friendly and there are plenty of beaches and rugged coastline for day trips. We spent 3 days there and were happy with our experience.

Newport offers a very nice fishing village atmosphere.
Newport offers a very nice fishing village atmosphere. There are several nice restaurants, but be sure to make advance reservations for the nicer ones as they are very highly sought after. Don't miss the Sea Lions that hang out right behind the Clearwater restaurant location.

Stay in the tourist areas of Newport if you want 'nice' Newport. The harbor area on Bay Street is filled with stores and good restaurants. We would have liked to stay longer but our accommodations were untenable with a bed so bad I hurt my back and we spent one night on the coast instead of three as planned. Nye Beach was nice enough but I far preferred the atmosphere at the Harbor.
