Sacramento maintains a glimmer of the Gold Rush and, if there weren’t cars on the cobbled streets, when wandering Old Sacramento you almost feel like you’re back in those days. Like in classic Westerns, horses pull covered wagons past a wooden boardwalk linking covered shopfronts.
The blossoming Californian capital attracted more than one kind of pioneer though. The Big Four entrepeneurs devised the Central Pacific Railroad, as detailed in the State Railroad Museum. The Eagle Theatre was the state’s first, on a considerably smaller scale than the modern-day arts venues showcasing everything from opera to ballet.
A paddle steamer is moored on the nearby Sacramento River, and the American River Parkway lines the city’s other river, opposite the first settlement site. The founder created Sutter’s Fort, and the State Indian Museum documents the native people that lived there long before.
Despite such mass immigration, Sacramento is surprisingly well integrated, but with that glorious Californian sun, it’s easy to see why the locals are so laidback. Palm trees shade streets including Capitol Mall, connecting the State Capitol to Tower Bridge. The nearby Crocker Art Museum is the oldest museum in the western US, while historic figures are remembered in the California Hall of Fame.
Booking.com’s accommodation options include apartments near the convention centre, cheap motels and Sacramento Airport hotels.
I took my 9 and 10 year old granddaughters on an educational field trip to the capitol. We had wonderful tours of the capitol building, the capitol park, Marshall Gold Discovery Park, and the Railroad Museum. All were worth the visit and cemented all the things the girls had learned in school. I recommend you not go to Sutter's Fort as it is under renovation and there is really nothing to see. We were unable to visit the Leland Stanford Mansion as there was a special event going on, but I would have really enjoyed having the girls see that property. Great educational experience!
Sacramento is a great city!! It was easy to navigate and has a very interesting history. The confluence of cultures made it a pleasure to experience. Depending on the time you have, it's in good proximity to other attractions, like Donner Pass, Yosemite, and only two hours away from San Francisco. The weather was EXCELLENT during out late September visit - lows at night in the lower 50's highs in the low to mid 80's with low humidity (we are from the East coast!).
I’ve been going to City of Sacramento for well into 48 years I’ve watched this city reinvent and rebuild its midtown area to become quite inviting with great restaurants and a handful of entertainment venues. Over the past five years, I’ve noticed a rapid increase in the level of homelessness and street crime.
The staff were pleasant and apologetic for the conditions. Forgot, there was repair work in the afternoon very loud banging, hammering, etc. Only good was the location and a decent restaurant close by.
I grew up in Sacramento and the history always has amazed me on the Riverfront and OLD Sacramento. I flew from Chicago ILL to Los Angeles and then we drove 6 hours via car to Sacramento. The accommodations were met when we have to change hotels due to an over booking and bad service on the other side of Richards Blvd. We will always stay at this location Ics machines always working and the staff always greeting you with a Welcome or how can we help you.
When we arrived the lobby was clean and very nice , than we went to our room and there was long black hairs in the shower , condom wrapper in the bedroom a gross food spill on the wall and the pool was disgusting
This is a full-service convention hotel in the middle of downtown Sacramento. I was only here for 12-hours but from everything that I saw & experienced, it's a great hotel. Room was clean, quiet & comfortable. I went to the pool/hot tub and it too is nice for a convention-style hotel. When traveling for business you just want things to go quick, smooth and fast - they accomplished this with an efficient check-in - i was in my room in less than 5 minutes after arriving - perfect!
Staff were accommodating, pool area was nice, rooms seemed clean, location was right off freeway. Rooms had fridge, microwave, coffee maker and haircare products. Hotel was nicely decorated modern. Breakfast choices were nice. There were hot and cold options. Eggs, sausage, waffles, French toast, fruit, yogurt, juices, milk, muffins, sugar cereals. Hotel is roughly 20 minutes from Sacramento airport with no traffic.
The breakfast is the best love the orange juice The rooms were nice and neat I loved how friendly the hotel staff is did I mention the breakfast which is open from 630 till 930 am !!!! Handsdown the best stay for the ratings me and my kids enjoyed oursepv3s and we felt safe I love the fact we are near a police station and they have cameras everywhere .....
Located right in Old Sacramento and within walking distance of Golden One Center and a bit further to the State Capitol. Rooms are well appointed with DirecTV (no microwave or refrigerator). The boat is fairly small so the restaurant and other amenities aren’t far away. Hotel is cheaper than other nicer hotels in the area.
Things that I liked about - microwave Things that I hated - elevator was closed once - even though it’s non-smoking room i could smell cigar from the room next to - could hear cars in the freeway next to the hotel - nothing is around the hotel (no place to eat, only Burger King)
Sacramento
Barbara was a great host. I felt at ease. the house was nice and quiet, and my room and private bath had everything I could possibly need. Location close to restaurants, and I love the neighborhood feel you get in the midtown area. My new favorite place in Sacramento.
very big rooms old style but a lot of space tables kitchen really nice after or before the flight you can easily get to old Sacramento from there by bus connection with the airport is organised by the hotel which is really helpful
The hotel rooms feel private and away from it all even thoe your in the middle of it all. It's located near a major freeway near one of the busiest intersections in the area but the hotel felt calm and peaceful .
Soon as we pulled in the area was dirty, it was screen doors hanging off doors, prostitution was going on. We immediately cancelled and found another better safer hotel. This place should be closed.
Clean hotel with good facilities and nice rooms. Convenient for city center access. Old Sacramento couple of minutes walk. They arranged an early breakfast for the Ironman event, much appreciated.
The location is awesome! Hotel is steps from Old Sacramento and Downtown Commons. No need to drive anywhere. Homeless people outside of property but I felt safe inside of establishment.
Decent for what it cost, good location, downtown and Old Sacramento easily walkable. Nice room, just what I needed for a couple nights stay.
The breakfast is Amazing! The beds are so comfy!! The room was incredible clean! Will be using this hotel every time I stay in Sacramento!
Very clean. Roomy rooms. Full size fridge, full size microwave, and a dishwasher! Best hotel breakfast in a long, long time.
This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The rooms, amenities, restaurant, bar, food, and service were all top notch!
Excellent hotel, clean, wonderful staff. great airport shuttle service! comfy beds.
The hotel was really nice and the lobby area. We had a nice room as well.
