Free Wi-Fi access, a full-service spa and a variety of dining options featuring gourmet West Texas cuisine are among the distinct amenities provided at this Texas resort, just outside the scenic Big... The location is great. It is right there at the resort versus having to drive 18 miles to Terlingua to eat one of the other restaurants. The live music was awesome. Everybody would join in singing parts of the chorus with the entertainer. The breakfast buffet was delicious also!
It is about 20 miles to Big Bend National Park, always make sure you have a full tank, before heading to the park. Check out the ghost town, go to starlight for food drinks, also Lavika or Lavita restaurant lots of character, cottonwood food store 4 miles before the park, if you like hiking do the Lost Mine Trail the view is amazing when you get to the top, it takes 1:30 to get to the top because we took our time but for young fit people probably can do it in one hour.
We loved Terlingua. We visited the ghost town section & the cemetery which was very interesting. However, while sightseeing at midday, be prepared because no cafes are open until evening so we were unable to stop for lunch. We did stop at a little store & picked up some snacks to make it thru our short excursion thru the Big Bend.. when we returned around 2:45, we stopped at another small store that had a sign for a cafe.. turned out, they close at 3, then open again later for dinner..so missed out & ended up eating ice cream to hold us over until dinner at the lodge. We found it very easy to get around with plenty of signs for directions.
I enjoyed the quiet and solitude however I would have really appreciated a coffee maker and refrigerator in the room. I enjoy a cup of coffee before having to get dressed. Staying here I had to get dressed and go to the on-site restaurant to buy coffee. So if you have a small travel coffee maker take it!
This a good spot to visit. It is much more diverse than what one would expect. All the people we met were helpful. We ate at too many places to mentioned, mostly Mexican, Tex-Mex, and breakfasts. For me the reason to go there is the Park and I have rafted and biked there -- good for both.
Terlinqua is a very interesting place to visit. It is laid back and the history of the ghost town is surprising. The locals hang around the general store, Starlight Theater as both have wonderful finds and great food. Other than that the main thing is to float the Rio Grande and explore the Big Bend National Park and learn about the land and its history.
If you are staying for a few days and have children. Bring your coffee makers and microwave, there are none in the room and the cafe closes early. Also, please be sure to check your room before jumping in to bed, we found a scorpion in our room that ended crawling up my husbands leg. You will be out in the wilderness!

You have to know up front that you are not going to find 4 and 5 star hotels in this area. They don’t fit! You wouldn’t want them here. With that said, the El Dorado is a funky, fun place with tremendous staff. It’s a warm, friendly and fun place. Good food, drink, and entertainment!
