Tropic was a cute little town 10 minutes from Bryce. Had a few restaurants to choose from and a very cute coffee shop! Be sure to make reservations or call ahead if looking to grab dinner as the wait on a Saturday night is 40min to 1 hour to sit or get takeout. I had dinner at the Pizza Place and the food was great and even got a decent glass of wine! Bryce Canyon Coffee Company is awesome! Best latte and banana bread and open at 7am so was able to grab something quick and make it to Bryce for sunrise.
Very clean site and room. Owner/operator was very accommodating and flexible. He personally made our breakfasts. While there we traveled to Bryce Canyon and Zion. Tropic is a bit far from the parks. We recommend getting a closer venue if parks are the reason for the trip.
The hikes in the area were nice, but the Mossy Cave was closed for trail maintenance and the arch about 9 miles up the road from Tropic collapsed in 2018. The Bryce Canyon hikes were very very nice! We went in mid-October and there were a lot of people. I could not imagine how busy it would be during peak season.
A small town Utah experience, nestled beneath the pink rocks of Bryce and sweeping vistas to the East, Tropic caters to tourists without losing its rural charm. Clean, quiet, welcoming, pretty. There is a beautifully located upscale restaurant on the west end of town at for a fine dining experience, Stone Hearth Grill. And convenient options on the Main Street for American style breakfast, and casual lunch/dinner.
I'm sure there are many trails to explore near Tropic but for us we were coming back from exploring the Escalante and Boulder areas and didn't want to drive through Bryce at night during a blizzard. Most things in Tropic and Bryce were closed at the time but we did manage to eat at a tasty pizza place and later found out that a reasonably good BBQ is also down the street. Bryce Canyon is usually a one day visit for most folks but in order to make the most of it I recommend staying in Tropic for the night, gives you more time to explore.
The cabin is big and has a separate bedroom, a kitchen area and a spacious bath. Everything was perfectly clean and neat. There should be a few more utensils in the kitchen, but it is enough for a simple breakfast at least. The staff was very friendly. For breakfast, go to Rustlers Cafe. We would also recommend I.D.K Barbecue for dinner.
