Excellent host that went above and beyond; was supposed to spend two days there ended up spending six. St. Lucia is a dream, but African Dreamz is a very special part of that. Owner was awesome and her husband and her can tell you all of the good things places to see. Saw Five rhinos. My six year old kid was also treated like a rock star.

St. Lucia is a little gem of a town. There are many places you can visit in the vicinity. The town itself has quite a few nice restaurants and there are shops and other amenities. We stayed at The Bridge which is super convenient for everything. We did a boat cruise with Fanna's Boat Tours on our first afternoon. It is the best time of the day to go as the hippos are waking up for their nightly forage and the light is good for photography. The next day we drove into Isimangaliso Wetland Park and did about four hours of game viewing - rhinos, hippos, lots of lovely birds, etc. Then we spent three hours with our picnic lunch at Cape Vidal, which is beautiful and you can have a dip in the sea (watch for monkeys and yellow billed kites if you are eating!). Then a leisurely 3 hour drive back game viewing. We walked to and ate at Greco's and I was impressed with their seafood.

St Lucia is a hidden gem in South Africa and well worth the visit! When you go, make sure to visit the boardwalk, walk to the end and go to the beach. An evening Estuary Cruise is an absolute must!!! Lots of restaurants to choose from and an added bonus is seeing the hippos on the street at sunset. We didn't see them but we'll be back to try again! If you are out in the evenings, it is best to drive because Hippos are DANGEROUS and the evening before we arrived, a hippo did chase some guests who got too close. Pack sunscreen and mosquito spray. It is best to stay on the estuary side of the town so that you have some bush frontage - giving you a better chance of seeing hippos and warthogs amongst other animals

St Lucia is a charming coastal town located near the...
St Lucia is a charming coastal town located near the entrance to the Isimangaliso Eastern & Western Wetland Park. The main street in St Lucia offers a variety of lodging options, shops, restaurants, an information center, as well as a Spar grocery store and Tops for buying alcohol. It is a bustling place frequented by many tourists. Visitors can explore the stunning beaches, take boat rides on the estuary, and walk along scenic trails; however, caution is advised due to the presence of wandering hippos. When choosing accommodation, it is important to consider whether you prefer to stay on the lively main street where there is a lot of activity with tourists, vehicles, and dining options. For a more peaceful stay, opt for accommodations on the streets behind the main road or further away. The town comes alive at night with the thrilling sight of hippos roaming around, but it is essential to keep a safe distance from these potentially dangerous and unpredictable creatures. Other wildlife can also be spotted in the area after dark, so it is wise to avoid wandering alone and remain alert. In the mornings, the town is quiet as tourists head to the Parks for the day, but there are a few coffee shops offering breakfast options ranging from healthy to traditional. Despite its short duration, a stay in St Lucia is incredibly enjoyable and I look forward to returning to explore the beaches and go snorkeling.

Great Hippo and Crocodile tours. Lovely game reserves.
Great Hippo and Crocodile tours. Lovely game reserves. Restaurants not as good as it use to be. Had disappointing meals at some of the most popular restaurants there. Some of the locals attacked my Son in law at the Fishermans restaurant and bar in the bathrooms for no reason at all than the fact that he was Irish and the Bar man just shrugged and said "It happens" Not a good way to treat visitor that support St Lucia's economy.

Charming lodge in a perfect location in St Lucia. Comfortable self catering rooms with all the amenities provided for a wonderful stay. The place lives up to its name, the sunsets are incredibly spectacular. The hosts Richard and Shelley were attentive and even helped us with tour bookings. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on the main street. Zac the friendly dog and some resident cats made our stay memorable. The pool is inviting and gardens are well kept.
