“The hotel is a 5-minute walk from JR Takayama station. The interior is Japanese-style designed with tatami flooring throughout the whole building. You will have to put your shoes in the locker room located next to the reception, the area is clean and comfy. Excellent hot spring experience on the top level of the building, there are choices between public and private baths. No reservations is needed for private baths. Clear instructions given at the entrance, and we are reminded of the hot spring manner. I feel this is good and necessary. It's so thoughtful. Ramen is served for free between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on the 2nd level. We managed to get in until the last minute, and the staff were so nice to serve up a hot ramen, fabulous treat after the hot spring experience!”

“This was a really excellent experience. The mama-sama was very welcoming and attentive right from the beginning, giving us guides to the area while we waited for check-in. When we got back from our day out our bags were already in the room waiting for us. We stayed in the new extension and the rooms are really well made. They are very classical Japanese and well laid out. We were provided clean house Yakuba every day and the girls were given a choice of three colours. Breakfast was superb Japanese fare, and beautifully laid out. It was our first traditional meal and we really enjoyed it. We also had the evening dinner, which we would highly recommend, but be aware it is so good and filling you may not want your breakfast the next day”

“Best ryokan I've ever seen. Very comfortable beds (prepared by staff while we were at the dinner), beautiful view, awesome looking wooden tables and kotatsu in the room. The food was heavenly. They rotate places where you eat your meals so that you don't get bored with the surroundings. There are two baths (rocky one way better), that are also switched every day between men and women. We joined other people for the evening sake near the fireplace and had great time. We had no problems with being picked up from the station on time, and on the way back they drove us directly to our next guesthouse in Takayama! One tip: We stayed in the main building with onsen and fireplace, but I've noticed that some people were located in the other building, take this under account while making reservation.”

“Everything was was perfect. They keep in touch with you the whole time, we were given a warm welcome from the point of pick up until our check out. The food was great, dinner and breakfast was served beautifully, we have our dinner in a private room very cool. The place is clean and I love the onsen. The interior was classic. The view outside is very beautiful specially in the winter morning. This place was the highlight of our trip in Japan, how I wish I could have stayed longer.”

“Location: The hotel sit along side one of the Nohi bus stops and literally when you get off at , it is in front of you( about 10 meters away from bus-stop. It is also about 15 mins bus ride away from the ropeway. Check in/ Room: We were welcomed with a green tea and a red bean mochi at the barbecue area. We were first lead to our room on the second floor( the cheapest on bookings.com). The hotel is basically covered with tatami every inch even inside the elevator. Our first room was very spacious & elegant, but the view was a street view facing nearby hotel/ ryokan. The room was equipped with a very nice private indoor onsen. But our priority was the mountain view and the private outdoor onset overlooking the mountain, so we asked to switch/ upgrade and we had to pay extra 4000 yen per person but it's all worth it. So when you book this hotel, have to make sure to select the private onsen. The hotel has 14 rooms in total. 6 rooms each on second and third floor and 4th floor has two rooms only which I am guessing it's more spacious and expensive. Basically the staffs didn't speak much English so be ready to have your google translate out if you have any special request. Upon checking out, there was a teenage boy whom helped us and spoke perfect English. Guessing must be the son of the hotel owner. Also in the bathroom, it is equipped with Kose beauty products( face wash, toner and lotion) Kose is one of the top 3 beauty/skincare brands in Japan. The bedding area ( floor) is heated. The staffs go into your room to help set up the bed during your dinner so by the time you are back to the room from the meal, you are all set. Room with mountain view: 401/402/301/302/303/201/202/203 Also the higher the floor , the more expensive.”

“The staff were very kind. The owner's daughter was very helpful and walked me personally to each location. Plenty of activities. In addition to massage chairs, you can also get Korean massage. Restaurant downstairs, small library area upstairs, plenty of space to spread out and walk around. The baths were clean and plenty of lockers to keep your belongings safe while you bathe. Any worries or uncertainties were lifted by her warm smile. The bed was comfortable and the blanket and pillow were perfect. Be sure to let them know if you plan to leave early. Would stay here again. Five stars!”

“A beautiful and welcoming traditional Ryokan run by a friendly Japanese staff. My wife and I considered this one of our best accommodation experiences we ever had! The service was incredible, with attention to every single detail (the owner ran around looking for an umbrella to give us because it was raining outside). The kaiseki meal was amazing too - delicious and authentic! The onsen's view overlooking the mountains and the snow was a dream. I would definitely recommend this charming place to anyone coming to Hida and the Japan Alps.”

“Wonderful stay at country ryokan in mid-August. Host Aji and family were wonderful. Little English but eager to please (be sure to bring a translation app). Cute little outdoor hotspring at this ryokan, with three or four restaurants an easy walk away, try Nagase and Yotsuba in particular (good food and friendly). Liquor store nearby with terrific sake too. First time in Japan but we're veteran Asian travelers, family of four including two teens. Everyone loved it. A little extra work to find this place but what an experience, staying in a tiny Japanese onsen village a stone's throw from Shinhotaka Ropeway and Kamikochi. Good value for money considering how expensive other ryokan are in the area, and as we live in the States, we were incredibly lucky that this establishment participates with booking.com. Not too hard to find: Direct train from Tokyo to Matsumoto (Azusa Limited Express). Take Alpico bus from Matsumoto bus station (or if starting from Takayama take the Nohi bus) to "Zensuji-mae" bus stop in Shinhirayu Onsen village (if coming from Matsumoto may have to change buses at Hirayu Onsen). Use your GPS to find Konji Ryokan from there--a 3-minute walk. Tips: to eat at the ryokan have to make reservations in advance (not sure how to do this without Japanese language skills) but it is probably very expensive. Purchase breakfast food in Matsumoto or Takayama before coming here, store in in-room fridge, and bring a lot of cash to pay for lunches (mountain huts are surprisingly expensive) and dinners and souvenirs. Buy 4-day Alps Passport at bus stations with Shinhotaka Ropeway tickets included before departing for Shinhirayu Onsen and all your transportation needs will be paid for in advance. Really can't recommend this place enough--if you're adventurous then go for it.”

“The entire experience was amazing. The staff was lovley - helpful and respectful. The food was japanese courses. It was just perfect. You could really feel all the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Also, the meals were very big - both of us couldn't finish 😆 (and i'm a big guy). The ryoken itself was so peaceful. The rooms were huge and clean. If its not clear - each room has a private toilet. The japanese bath were excellent. I'd like to add that the owner of the ryoken is such a nice man. He made us feel welcome as if he was hosting us at his own home. All in all the best place we've stayed in Japan.”

“I made the mistake of not contacting the ryokan about dinner and breakfast in advance, but the owner was nice enough to add it on for me last-minute. Definitely don't forget to contact them about this! The meals were a real highlight. They served an incredible quantity of food, and it was all delicious. I particularly loved the beef sukiyaki at dinner. The ryokan overall is very comfortable, and the room was spacious. The owners were very nice and helped me figure out the bus schedule to get to my next destination (I can't speak to their English, as I got by with my bad Japanese, but they were gracious about that.) The best part about this place, though, is definitely the baths. Ohh, the outdoor hot bath. My dream house will have this exact bath. I was lucky enough to have the women's bath to myself when I was there, but in case you travel at a busier time, there's also a private bath that can guarantee you some alone (or couple) time. The women's bath was exactly as depicted in the pictures, with natural rock, hot water, and a beautiful view of the snowy mountains. You might think that bathing outdoors in the winter would be unpleasant, but it's not. It's extremely, extremely pleasant. By the time you're done, you're not even cold walking back inside. I can't recommend this experience highly enough.”
