I picked the Jolly Sailor because I wanted an untainted English Inn to stay in with pub downstairs and I got exactly what I wanted and more. The local atmosphere of family and friends at crossroads on the banks of the River Ouse provided a great jump off spot for York. Plus, the evenings in the pub were great considering the local clientele embraced outsiders. I was invited to play in the Wednesday night bingo, but I was rather tired and regret not participating. I ate the Homemade Jolly pie, chips and peas for dinner and was very happy with the hardy meal. The beer was exceptional, I chose the Hop, Stock & Barrel sessions IPA from Jolly Sailor Brewery. The room was upstairs and small, but had wonderful street view, a good working radiator that doubled as a clothes drier. The bed was very comfortable, there was a desk and little table for two and small closet. The bathroom was down the hall with the shower and both were excellent. Parking was off site, but not hard to find a place and there is a carpark along the river. Everything is in walking distance in the village of Cawood. The village may lack some convinces such as laundry facilities, but the charm of the village is within its inergetic community. A daycare is next door and so youth keeps this village with history with King Charles III and Cardinal Wolsey in a state of constant vibrant.

I had a pleasant stay at the Bar Convent. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. Staff were kind and friendly. It’s close to both the station and the city center but it’s quiet at night. I highly recommend visiting its exhibition too. Learning about the history of the building made my trip to York more special. I hope to come back here on another occasion.

Friendly welcome by staff, easy to park at the hotel. Spacious family room. Comfortable & clean beds. Yorkshire tea & biscuits in the room. The food & drinks at the hotel were very good & affordable with meal deals available. Taxi rank close by. Worth visiting the ancient Selby Abbey next door to The George Inn.

We enjoyed the evening meal. The service was prompt, we all had a different meals and they were served together and all hot. We chose the hotel for it's location, to where we needed to be at the weekend. Bonus having a play area for the children. The bedroom was big enough for us as a family and beds were comfortable. There was a problem with our bedroom door, we reported it to reception and it was promptly sorted

The reception ladies were absolutely lovely I was travelling with 3 children and they made us feel very welcome as were the cleaning ladies we helped them out and stripped our beds etc the room was spacious and adequate with bath shower kettle etc and tv the bed was very comfy and the children’s too. The bar staff were very pleasant too and I loved the fact it had the soft play for the kids to run around and blow off some steam.

When we arrived we settled in our room,& we had a meal booked together with our family on the evening in the interim period,we with the children made use of the indoor play area, that was great, the meals were great,& the service also,& great value, with 8 clean plates!!after the meal we took advantage of the outside play facilities until it got dark, all the children had a great time,& we had a job getting away from it as they were reluctant to pack up for the night, very good 👍

Family room was spacious and everyone had a towel, not always the case in some establishments. Good choice of food on the dinner menu and the breakfast was well presented. Staff friendly and courteous and treated our late junior age grandchildren as though they were adults when they spoke. we enjoyed our short stay but would use you again if we are back in that area.
