Amazing place to stay. The morning prayer was definitely a highlight. Loved all of it. The temple is beautiful, with amazing gardens. The room was also very nice, spacious and well equipped. Staff was very kind. Dinner was served in a private dining room, the food was very nice (but if you cant eat Japanese food definitely bring something to eat as you cant buy anything at the temple). The onsen was modern and clean, men and women are separated. Thank you very much, would definitely recommend!

Situated in Koyasan in the Wakayama region, 宿坊 光明院 features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot tub. It is located 39 km from Tama Museum and provides luggage storage space. Itakiso Shrine is 45 km away and Jodo-ji Temple is 45 km from the ryokan.

Everyone there was wonderful, willing to help even with the language barrier. The dinner and breakfast were delicious (if you stay more than one night, note that you'll eat the same dinner and breakfast) The room and all the temple was super clean and calm. It was a great place to stay! I really love the ceremonies that I could witness, meditation in the evening, morning ceremony and goma ceremony (fire ceremony). The one thing I was surprised by is that the showers are "Onsen Showers" so it's in a commun room, with little stools where you can clean yourself before entering the bath. Not a negative point, just something I wasn't expecting. Thanks to all the staff there for a wonderful stay!

Very unique experience and we loved it! We stayed with two children (8 and 10yo) and we were a bit nervous as to how it would go, but the staff were amazing and we really enjoyed the stay. The food was fantastic with variety and lots of it! Meditation and morning ceremonies were great. You have to be back to the temple by 9pm and not allowed to bring in food and drink from outside to respect the rules of the temple which is fair enough but keep this mind. Highly recommend!

We were staying in the family room with a private bath. Great view over the garden, and great room size with comfortable beds. Good AC and wifi connection aswell. The monks were great at communicating with us and attentive. Food was different, but great to try. Morning ceremony was a nice experience to have.

A wonderful guest house run by a very nice family, where we felt like at home. I think this is the cleanest place I've ever stayed at! Here is a good starting point for a walk towards Okunoin.

Words cannot describe how grateful we are for our time at Saizenin. Being invited to join in Shoko was an experience we will never forget. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our Japanese is not very good, so we were immediately at ease when we could chat to the staff in English.

It was an amazing experience and it was a wonderful temple! We felt honoured we were allowed to stay in such a place. The dinner was surprisingly tasty even if it was vegetarian! We were there late January so be prepared for some seriously cold weather. The rooms and dining area had heating but outside it’s freezing! Maybe pack some heat pads or buy some from family mart, there is one very close! :)

I'd previously stayed at Ekoin Temple a few years ago and in comparison I found Rengejoin to be much more personal and intimate. I stayed in the deluxe family suite and it was simply beautiful. Every detail was well thought through and a real joy to experience. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind and the food was top notch. Would highly recommend this temple stay! Do note though that this temple has a 9pm curfew which means joining the night tour of the cemetery (hosted by Ekoin) is not an option.

Beautiful and affordable accomodation in Koyasan! Ryochi, the owner treats the guests like family and is a great guide for the area. He really helped me with planning hiking trips during my stay. The beds are clean and spacious, and there is a cozy communal area to hang out in. Homemade dinners and breakfasts were also delicious! Would definitely stay again if I ever return to Koyasan. :)

We are a family of four with two teenagers, they gave us two tatami rooms. The whole experience was very interesting. We did a meditation session and a morning Buddhist fire ceremony. Location was good. Walking distance to everything. Toilet and shower/bath are shared. There's no air conditioning in the room. Buddhist vegetarian Breakfast and dinner was very good.

it’s hard to compare to a hotel because this isn’t just a hotel, it’s a functioning temple set in very scenic grounds and you’re paying for an experience and we loved it. we had the western style family room and found it all to be very comfortable. views of the courtyard from the room which was very impressive. service from the staff was very friendly.
