It really had everything I want in a hostel -- great location, chill people, clean and safe, shared kitchen which was fully equipped, a lounge, and the hosts were great.

Located in Wellington and with Freyberg Beach reachable within a 15-minute walk, House of Pirie has a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a shared lounge.

Wonderful old Victorian building, loved the high ceilings. Good kitchens, quiet and free laundry was a nice bonus. Was in a six bed dorm and although everyone kept different hours everyone was considerate of the others in the room. Also well located to explore Wellington. Note - The number 2 bus drops you off just up the hill from the hostel if you arrived by ferry from the south island.

The people working there were super friendly. I especially liked the female only floor (highest level). The hostel also offers free towels and complementaries like shampoo, a soap bar and a vanity set.
