Železná Ruda is a great base for seeing the Šumava/Böhmerwald national parks -- quiet but with a decent selection of shops and restaurants. On the Czech side of the border, we enjoyed catching the quaint single-seater chair lift up the Pancíř mountain. Over the border in Germany, we enjoyed taking the cable car up the Grosser Arber mountain and walking around the Arbersee lake. We visited at Easter, outside of the winter and summer seasons, so a few attractions were closed when we visited. A nice village with both a beautiful Czech National Park and...
A nice village with both a beautiful Czech National Park and a German national park nearby, and you can start hiking (is for me going uphill in nature) or cross-country skiing within 10-15 minutes walking from where I stayed. It has a brewery hotel on top of a ski slope, not too far walking from the town center, for those who love hiking. It hosts a number of restaurants, and Asian and Thai massages are an option as well. It is also a good starting point for cycling in the two national parks. Public transport for the Sumava national park towards the east is mainly by bus, and in the summer, and trains go mainly north toward Plzen and south into Germany, from where the train mainly goes either south or west, and to the east the bicycle or the bus can be used. The bus stop enroute to Sumava National Park is about 500 metres away from the train station and has a frequency of every two hours during the season. The town has plenty of eateries with choice of local cuisine, Kebab corner and ever Viet cuisine. Cross Cafe was my haunt for coffee and quick snacks.Guest review bysebastianJapan

Many nice walking trails are starting directly from the hotel. We got an upgrade of the room to a suite with separate room with sofa, TV and fridge, lots of space! Behind the hotel is a large parking lot that is free for guests (just validate the card with reception). For electric cars there's a public charger at P1, which is 1km down the road and you can take a nice forest trail there, just bring a torch in the dark.Guest review byGuido79Netherlands

Complimentary wine, discount at the local coffee shop and also for the spa facilities in the same building. It is centrally located in Zelezna Ruda and very convenient for restaurants, shops etc.. The surrounding area is amazing for cycling, hiking and generally chilling out. The host Daniel, although we never met him, is highly communicative and provided us with lots of useful information. Breakfast offered enough choice even for a vegetarian ( I loved the choice of different nut-butter). We had dinner as well, which was tasty but on the price-level in Prague.
