Founded by the Phocaeans in 600 B.C., the long history of Marseille has produced an interesting and dynamic port-side city bursting with cultural diversity. Great city with many attractions and different cultures.
Great city with many attractions and different cultures. Highlights are the Grotte Cosquere and Le Panier. It is also nice to stroll different neighborhoods. Some lesser known gems are the Vallon des Auffes with its small beaches and the views of the Corniche Kennedy. Great for a Sunday afternoon is the Parc Longchamp (with the Palais Longchamp and the Musée des Beaux Arts).

I visited Marseille after 20 years. It has changed a lot.
I visited Marseille after 20 years. It has changed a lot. It has become too expensive (when compared to other cities), yet it provides only a mediocre product in terms of visitability and culinary experiences. In June it is already quite hot. The restaurants along the front of the Vieux Port are to avoid at all costs - very expensive and the food is not fresh. On the other hand, Marseille can be a base from where to visit the other places in Provence.

I went there for a concert at the Vélodrome. Marseille is filthy and graffitied. Yet I had some excellent food and also visited cathedral. I wouldn’t go to Marseilles if didn’t have a specific reason.

Marseille as a city is a not a great tourist destination - the cathedrals are recent builds, the port is full of modern buildings interrupting the decaying ancient architecture - and there was a lot of graffiti everywhere. However, the parc national des calanques, which was right next door, was absolutely spectacular; and the blue mediterranean was so beautiful. I didn't go to the museums but colleagues who did said they were excellent.

An interesting historic city.
An interesting historic city. The old port, the Les Paniers district and the Pharo regions are full of fascinating history. Good transport links too, only a few hours from Paris on the train. The bus network is excellent.

A city of great contrasts.
A city of great contrasts. Beautiful, energetic, smelling of good food, for shopping, for walks. It also has its disadvantages if you move away from the port. You will see a different side of the city. Dirty, bad smelling and a bit dangerous. There are places where you can see that you are in France
Les Appartements du Vieux Port had checking on the other side of the block than the actual entrance to the apartment was, which is ok. Though the apartment was in a older building it was renovated and looked very clean and modern, e.g. with all the kitchen appliances needed. The location is perfect, perhaps only hundred meters from the old port, and the area was peaceful and gave safe feeling.
Personnel was most kind. I got excellent, fully useful info about what to see and do in Marseille, thank you. Appreciated. :-)
The apartment is beautiful in a great location. It has the first true king size bed in our travels in France, a quite comfortable one at that. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked. The wash machine was a surprise bonus. We were there two nights the first week of the rioting this summer and the apartment was a fairly quiet haven of peace as loud mobs, breaking glass, police sirens and helicopters roiled around us during the night. The wifi worked quite well. If we ever return to Marseille, we'd love to stay again.
Unlike some of the commentaries in here, we loved the neighborhood, there was even a local tunisian bazaar very nearby. Yes, you should be a little bit careful at night because sometimes there are beggars on street. But the area is generally safe, it is on the most central street of Marseille Vieux Port and very close to all public transportation. Room size was quite sufficient and even though there was noise from the street, you dont hear anything if the windows were closed.
Very nice and clean hotel. Staff was very helpful, rooms were big and clean. Check-in was very easy, online check-out was available. Location might not be for everyone, it is 16 min walking distance to Vieux Port, but very close to metro and tram, also very close to some museums and Les Terrasses du Port shopping center. Breakfast was wonderful. All in all a very good experience.
I like the location - the famous escalier de la Gare St. Charles is across the street and on the top of the hill the railway station with efficient buses to/from the airport. It is probably the only hotel in Marseille which doesn´t take money in advance from the customers. It was my third time stay this year here and I got better room for the same price which I appreciated a lot.
The location was perfect: near the vieux port, in a walking distance from the metro and the tram stations. Monoprix is also in a walking distance.
The host, madame Solega, is very kind and helpful. She gave us several advices for things to do around Marseille. Plus, she was very responsive to our messages during the stay, even late at night and we thank her for that.
The room is well equipped with all necessary for a long stay: washing machine, kettle, dish washing machine, vacuum machine and big fridge. The location is right at the Vieux Port - city centre and there’s a lot of good restaurants and convenient stores around. Friendly staff - Mr. Marc who take care a lot during our stay. Highly recommend for your stay in Marseille
A great location in walking distance (15 min) to the Vieux Port.
If you travel by car you might be aware that parking in Marseille can be a tad risky (burglaries are common), and even public car parks are not safe. So key is a hotel with its own parking, which you find here.
Breakfast is buffet style, and quite good.
Amazing location and very friendly staff. She welcomed us and gave good tips. Amazing view to the Notre Dame de La Garde. It's nice there's a kitchen. So when we were tired to go to a restaurant, we could cook something fast. Close to the Vieux port, supermarket, good restaurants. There was coffee, tea and a city map.
Great stay in the heart of Marseille, few minute walk away from the Vieux Port.
Arrived very late, but there were still someone to welcome at arrival, and to make sure we got all that we need to have a pleasant stay.
Room is comfortable, and have everything we need for a quick stay.
We stayed for one night and the hotel was perfect. It was easy to get to from Marseille Saint Charles and there were lots of restaurants and bars in the area. The room was really clean, a good temperature and had everything we needed. We will come back when we next visit Marseille.
I liked the location very much. It was a few minutes away from the Vieux Port and there were restaurants all around it. We could easily navigate and go to all attractions because of the availability of public transportation.
The staff is amazing, the room is clean and cozy, there is a microwave + minifridge + sink + plates + cutlery. I've been to 6 hotels in France and this was my favorite so far. Also super close to the Vieux Port.
The location is good you can walk around Marseille without using any public transport close to restaurants, cafe and bar.
The Hotel is opposite the Vieux Port .
And the swimming pool is a bonus.
The property was very clean and spacious. The bed was so comfortable! It was on a great position to explore Marseilles very close to the Vieux Port with lots of places to eat and shops nearby
central location in Marseille 3 mn walk to vieux port. Tramway is at the door. It in the heart of the shopping downtown
